The Kidney Walk is returning for another fundraising march this month.
It’s a chance to celebrate transplants, honour loved ones, and provide encouragement to those living with the illness – all while raising crucial funds for The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
“The Kidney Walks really are the highlight of the year,” says Mary-Pat Shaw, President of The Kidney Foundation’s Ontario Branch. “They show people living with kidney disease that they aren’t alone and demonstrate the strength of our community.” Over the past two years, the event has raised more than $1 million annually to support life-saving programs, research, and services.
For Halton resident Ashley Chircop, the walk carries special meaning. Her family walks for her 10-year-old son, Maximus, who was born with Bilateral Hydronephrosis and faces a lifelong battle with chronic kidney disease.
“We walk to show him he’s not alone – and to support others living with kidney disease,” Chircop explained. “The Kidney Walk is an excellent place to walk, network and meet families going through similar challenges.”
More than 4 million Canadians live with kidney disease, and many require dialysis or face years-long waits for transplants. The Kidney Foundation helps families through programs like peer support, emergency financial assistance, and education. Funds raised through the Kidney Walk ensure these vital supports continue while also driving research toward better treatments.
This year, participants have the chance to win a special prize. For every $250 raised online, walkers will be entered into a draw for two round-trip tickets to select Asian destinations, courtesy of EVA Air. The event is also supported by national partner Otsuka Canada Pharmaceutical Inc. and national media sponsor Yes TV.
The Kidney Walk in Halton will take place on Sunday, September 28th at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, located at 2340 Ontario Street in Oakville. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., with start time at 10:00 a.m.
