In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th, the Milton Public Library (MPL) is inviting children to take part in a special activity that reflects the meaning of Orange Shirt Day.
From Tuesday, September 9th through Tuesday, September 30th, children can pick up a paper t-shirt template at their branch’s information desk, write or draw what Orange Shirt Day means to them, and return it once complete. The finished shirts will then be displayed on a wall or window at each participating branch.
This initiative hopes to teach young people about the importance of truth and reconciliation while giving them a way to express their thoughts and feelings creatively.
Orange Shirt Day, observed nationally each September 30th, honours the children who were taken from their families and communities through residential schools, while recognizing the ongoing journey of healing and reconciliation.
