The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has partnered with GetaKit, an online service that delivers free and discreet at-home HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests.
The initiative aims to reduce stigma, promote early detection, and improve access to sexual health services across the region.
“GetaKit is designed to support individuals who may face barriers accessing traditional health care,” says Dr. Colin Lee, associate medical officer of health. “This service offers a convenient testing option delivered straight to someone’s door, empowering people to take control of their sexual health.”
In addition to HIV, the kits can test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis C, with requisition forms provided by licensed physicians to ensure confidentiality. Test results are typically available online within three to seven days, and the service also connects individuals with resources, preventive care options, and follow-up support.
GetaKit is available to residents of Simcoe Muskoka aged 17 and older, with HIV self-testing for those 18+.
