The Nottawasaga OPP has arrested two individuals in connection with a weapons investigation that began after a family pet was fatally injured.
On Sunday, August 17th, officers responded to a report in New Tecumseth after a resident’s cat was shot with what was believed to be a BB gun. Sadly, the animal later died from its injuries.
As part of the investigation, police executed a search warrant on Wednesday, August 27th at a home on 4th Line in New Tecumseth. Several improperly stored firearms were seized, including a bolt-action rifle, a shotgun, a hunting rifle, three airsoft guns, and ammunition.
A 71-year-old resident was charged with three counts of careless firearm storage, while a 73-year-old resident was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and cruelty to animals.
Both were released and are scheduled to appear in court in Bradford on October 9th.
Police remind the public that all animals deserve to be treated with care and respect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottawasaga OPP or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
