As students return to class, the South Simcoe Police Service is stepping up their presence in school zones across Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury.
Until Thursday, September 4th, officers will be on hand during drop-off and pick-up times as part of their annual Back-to-School Traffic Safety and Awareness campaign. Police will be watching for speeding, distracted driving, seat belt use, and other unsafe behaviours. Motorists are reminded that fines are higher in community safety zones.
Drivers are also urged to follow school bus rules: all traffic must stop when the stop sign arm is extended and red lights are flashing, regardless of direction. Officers are reminding residents to slow down, obey crossing guards, and be alert for children walking or biking to school.
While this campaign highlights the start of the school year, South Simcoe Police say traffic enforcement is a year-round priority to keep everyone safe on the roads.
Let’s have a safe return to school this week!
