The County of Simcoe has introduced a new Resident Ambassador Program aimed at building stronger community ties and enhancing well-being for seniors living at Simcoe Village, Georgian Village, and Sunset Village.
Funded through a one-time $24,410 Seniors Community Grant from the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, the initiative provides seniors with an opportunity to take on leadership roles, welcome new residents, and organize activities that reflect their interests. Ambassadors will help create programs that support intellectual, social, physical, and emotional well-being, from greeting visitors and starting clubs to leading art workshops and building phone networks to keep residents connected.
Provincial and local leaders praised the program, with Minister Raymond Cho noting it will help seniors stay “active, connected and engaged,” while MPP Doug Downey highlighted its role in fostering meaningful community impact. Warden Basil Clarke added that empowering residents in leadership roles will create “a strong sense of belonging, purpose, and pride.”
