The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is celebrating an academic milestone as two local students have been named Schulich Leaders, earning Canada’s top scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Diya Kalia, a Grade 12 student at Garth Webb Secondary School, and Heidi Huang, a Grade 12 student from Iroquois Ridge High School, have each secured one of the 100 Schulich Leader Scholarships awarded nationwide out of more than 350,000 applicants.
Valued up to $120,000, the scholarships are awarded to students who show exceptional promise in STEM fields.
“Their achievements reflect not only their own hard work and determination, but also the supportive learning environments in our schools,” says Curtis Ennis, HDSB Director of Education.
Kalia will pursue Engineering at McMaster University, while Huang begins a dual degree in Computer Science and Business Administration at Western University.
