The Helson Gallery, in partnership with the Halton Black History Awareness Society, is presenting the 8th annual Emancipation Art Exhibition.
This juried exhibition highlights powerful artworks that honour Black history and the ongoing significance of Emancipation. Featuring pieces from 23 artists of the African diaspora, the show explores themes of identity, heritage, and culture through a range of media.
An opening reception will be held Saturday, July 19th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., where selected artists will be recognized for work that best represents the Black experience.
“Each artist brings their own style and ideas, but together, their work beautifully explores the theme of emancipation,” says Halton Hills Mayor Anne Lawlor.
While visiting the Cultural Centre, guests can also enjoy the Square Foot Show and Sale in the Upper Sisnett Lobby, where local artists present 12” x 12” works available for $226 each. In the Lower Sisnett Lobby, don’t miss William Band: Watercolours, a solo exhibition showcasing finely detailed watercolour paintings by the accomplished artist – all available for purchase. Both of those exhibitions are open until August 17th.
The Emancipation Art Exhibition is on display until August 31st. Find the Helson Gallery at 9 Church Street in Georgetown.
