A smoother and safer commute has arrived for Halton drivers, as the new Tremaine Road bridge is officially open.
The milestone marks the beginning of the final phase in a multi-year infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and long-term regional mobility.
The newly opened bridge, which will eventually support four lanes, currently operates with two and provides improved north-south connectivity between Steeles Avenue and Campbellville Road. The bridge is part of a broader plan that includes realigning Tremaine Road and constructing a future interchange to connect directly with Highway 401 – slated to open in December 2026.
With the new bridge open, crews are now preparing to demolish the old two-lane bridge, which will involve both permanent and temporary road closures:
- Permanent Closure of the old Tremaine Road bridge began on Monday, July 7th. Traffic has been rerouted to the new bridge with detour signage in place.
- Southbound traffic: Use Detour 4 via Campbellville Road.
- Northbound traffic: Use Detour 3 via Existing Tremaine Road.
- A temporary overnight closure of Highway 401 is scheduled from 9:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12th to 9:00 a.m. Sunday, July 13th, between Regional Road 25 and Guelph Line. This will allow for the safe removal of the old bridge. Eastbound and westbound traffic will be redirected to Campbellville Road, with police and flag personnel onsite.
This project is part of Halton Region’s 10-year, $9 billion capital plan focused on sustainable infrastructure that meets the region’s long-term needs.
