An 18-year-old driver from Oakville is facing serious charges after being clocked at 214 km/h on the QEW near Third Line – and then trying to race a Burlington OPP officer.
The incident took place overnight recently on the busy highway where the posted speed limit is 100 km/h. Police say the young driver was not only driving at more than double the legal limit but also made the reckless decision to try and challenge the officer’s vehicle.
The teen was immediately pulled over and is now charged with stunt driving. His licence has been suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle, registered to his father, has been impounded for 14 days.
The OPP continues to remind drivers that high speeds put everyone on the road at risk. Stunt driving charges carry significant consequences, including fines, vehicle impoundment, and potential jail time.
