The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) has once again earned top marks for its commitment to sustainability, ranking as the most energy efficient school board in Ontario for the second year in a row.
The recognition comes from the 2025 Top Energy Performing School Boards Report: Sustainable Schools, released on Wednesday, June 11th, which reviewed data from over 5,000 schools across 72 boards.
After placing third in 2023 and rising to first in 2024, the HCDSB has maintained its #1 status, making it the only board in Ontario to top the rankings in consecutive years. The report compares energy usage against top-quartile efficiency targets to highlight consistent and innovative energy-saving practices.
“This recognition is a testament to the long-term planning, innovation, and daily efforts of our staff and students to make sustainability a shared priority,” says Ryan Merrick, Chief Operations and Sustainability Officer. Director of Education John Klein echoed this, calling environmental stewardship a key value in both faith and education.
HCDSB credits its success to a strong team effort from staff, students, and community partners, and plans to continue leading by example in the years to come.
