With the official start to summer just around the corner, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is urging residents to stay safe on the water.
This comes after a close call off Burlington Beach. On Wednesday, June 11th, two paddleboarders and their dog had to be rescued after drifting nearly one kilometre from shore. Fortunately, all parties, including the pup, were brought back safely and without injury.
The HRPS Marine Unit is using the incident as a timely reminder for everyone planning to hit the water this season. They’re encouraging water enthusiasts to follow three key safety tips:
- Always wear a properly fitted lifejacket
- Keep a working cell phone with you in case of emergency
- Understand the risks before heading out on the water
As recreational water activity increases during the summer months, HRPS wants everyone to make safety a priority.
