The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is investigating a spike in break and enters that are occurring at community mailboxes across the region.
The largest increase has been seen in Burlington with mailboxes in the Millcroft and Orchard neighbourhoods targeted; however, break-ins have been seen other neighbourhoods in Burlington, as well as Oakville and Milton. A resident has also notified us of an incident in the south-end of Georgetown.
The break-ins are occurring in the early morning hours between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Suspects are using tools to pry open parcel lockers and steal mail and packages.
The HRPS is conducting extra patrols in these areas; however, is also asking members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police. At this point no arrests have been made in relation to these investigations.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316.
