Halton Hills marked a major milestone with the official opening of the town’s first-ever cricket pitch at Trafalgar Sports Park.
On Friday, June 6th, members of Town Council, Town staff, the Halton Hills Cricket Club, and local residents gathered to celebrate with a ceremonial first pitch and a live demonstration game.
The new 22-yard synthetic turf pitch, located between Fields 8 and 9, is the result of a collaborative effort between the Town and the Halton Hills Cricket Club. Built to meet growing community demand, the facility aims to support youth programming, recreational matches, and future local tournaments.
“I want to thank the Halton Hills Cricket Club for their vision, passion, and leadership in bringing this project to life,” says Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Their contribution, both in planning and funding, has been instrumental in realizing this milestone.”
Cricket is one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports, and its popularity in Halton Hills has seen a steady rise. The local club has played a key role in this growth by promoting accessible programming and actively engaging youth. Their $11,500 contribution to the pitch’s construction highlights their strong commitment to the sport’s development in the region.
The facility is expected to become a vibrant hub for cricket in Halton Hills for years to come.
