The Halton District School Board (HDSB), in partnership with SAVIS of Halton and EFRY Hope and Help for Women, will host its fourth Anti-Sex Trafficking Information Session later this month.
Part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness about sex trafficking and sexual exploitation in Halton, this session will offer the same important content shared in previous events held during the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 school years. It’s open to all members of the community, with free child minding available for children in Kindergarten to Grade 8. Registration is required and will remain open until capacity is reached.
The evening will explore the realities of sex trafficking, including who is at risk, online safety, warning signs, and how to keep young people safe. Attendees will also hear firsthand accounts from survivors, as well as insights from the Halton Regional Police Service and other community support agencies.
“We’ve seen overwhelming interest in these sessions, which speaks to the need to continue sharing this information and support in the community,” says Jennifer Fowler, Superintendent of Education with responsibility for Safe Schools for the Halton District School Board. “Each session provides another opportunity to reach more families and equip them with the tools they need to recognize the signs of sex trafficking and safeguard the well-being of our students and community members. This ongoing effort reflects our commitment to supporting student well-being, as outlined in the HDSB’s 2024–2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, and helps us ensure that every student learns in a safe and supportive environment.”
It’s happening on Thursday, June 19th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at M.M. Robinson High School, located at 2425 Upper Middle Road in Burlington.
