In honour of Menstrual Hygiene Day, United Way Halton & Hamilton (UWHH) has teamed up with Canadian social enterprise joni to expand access to sustainable period products through the local Period Promise initiative.
The collaboration will help meet growing demand for menstrual supplies across more than 30 community agencies, schools, shelters, and programs in Halton and Hamilton.
Through the partnership, joni will provide donated and discounted sustainable period products while also helping raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation.
“Menstrual equity is a local issue that many people still don’t feel comfortable talking about – but we must,” says Brad Park. “Access to menstrual products is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. Through this partnership, we’re not only providing critical supplies to people who need them most—we’re also opening the door to important conversations and helping ensure that no one in our community is left behind.”
Coinciding with the launch, joni released BLEED: Period Stories Written to Be Shared, an anthology of real stories aimed at sparking conversation and deepening understanding about the lived experience of menstruation. A portion of proceeds will support the Period Promise initiative.
“This partnership is about so much more than product distribution,” adds Linda Biggs, CoFounder and CEO of joni. “It’s about community, conversation, and creating lasting impact. With United Way Halton & Hamilton, we’re proud to expand access to period care and continue working to make menstrual equity a reality for all.”
