Town of Milton Council Chambers, 2019
With Town Councillor for Milton’s Ward 1, Kristina Tesser Derksen, winning the MP seat for the new riding of Milton East – Halton Hills South, there will be an opening on Town Council.
The Town of Milton says their Council will consider options to fill a vacant seat during its regular meeting on Monday, May 26th at 7:00 p.m.
Council will review options for filling a vacancy, whether that be by appointing a new member or holding a by-election. They will then direct staff on next steps. The seat would be filled until the next municipal election in October 2026.
It’s important to note that a similar issue happened to Halton Hills Council when one of their members was named the Member of Provincial Parliament for Wellington – Halton Hills (Joseph Racinsky) in this year’s provincial election. Their Council decided to appoint the person who had placed 3rd in the polls (Matt Kindbom) for the Ward in their most recent Municipal election (the top 2 candidates were named Councillors in their respective Ward).
Residents interested in the process can attend the meeting in person at 150 Mary Street or watch the livestream on Milton’s YouTube channel.
