The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has concluded its probe into an altercation involving the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and a Burlington man.
On Monday, January 6th, at around 4:00 p.m., the 62-year-old man reportedly struck a parked car and tried to flee. An off-duty HRPS officer intervened, resulting in a physical confrontation that ended with the man being restrained and later diagnosed with broken ribs and a fractured nose.
Following interviews with witnesses, the subject officer, and a review of surveillance footage, the SIU found no grounds to lay charges on the officer. The director ruled the officer’s use of force was legally justified under section 25(1) of the Criminal Code.
