Kristina Tesser Derksen, Liberal Party of Canada candidate for Milton East-Halton Hills South in the 2025 federal election
Talk about close!
Elections Canada has announced a change in one of Milton’s two ridings following the 2025 federal election on Monday, April 28th.
Validation was done this week for the Milton East—Halton Hills South riding. Originally, it was believed that Parm Gill of the Conservative Party of Canada had won the riding by 298 votes. After double checking, it was found that Kristina Tesser Derksen of the Liberal Party of Canada had actually won the race by just 29 votes – for now.
It’s noted that validation is not an official recount, as it’s a process of double checking for any errors done at polling stations on election night. It’s reported that with the count so close, an official recount is expected since the winning percentage was less than 0.1% of the overall vote.
A similar situation is happening in a Newfoundland riding this week where the Liberal candidate won by just 12 votes.
Here are the results from the federal election for both Milton ridings.
We’ll keep you updated on the results when we get more information.
