Zee Hamid, incumbent MPP and Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario candidate for Milton in the 2025 Ontario provincial election
Milton’s Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) elect Zee Hamid will get his full go in the position.
Thursday, February 27th was the provincial election in Ontario. Hamid and the Progressive Conservative Party were able to gain 47% of the vote, narrowly beating the Ontario Liberal Party’s candidate Kristina Tesser Derksen. Read more here.
This will be the second term for MPP Hamid after he won a by-election in 2024. It’s his second election win in less than 12 months.
Speaking on his most recent win, he says he’s relieved and honoured, but it’s time to get back to work.
For those that keep asking about these two things: Costco and Burger King were not high on his list of priorities.
Aside from those two desired businesses, Milton is growing, and it’s growing fast. That is a mandate made by the provincial government, as the Town of Milton works to design its way to a population of more than 400,400 residents.
With his work as a Milton Councillor, and now as part of the provincial government, Hamid touches on what’s needed to prepare the community for this mandated growth.
Some people are lifelong politicians. You don’t have to go far to find one, as Wellington-Halton Hills voted in 23-year-old Joseph Racinsky as their newest MPP. Prior to this recent election, Racinsky served the Town of Halton Hills as a Councillor.
The more obvious example might just be the man sitting in Milton’s Town Hall right now. While Milton Mayor Gord Krantz had a career prior to serving our town as a Councillor, and then winning his first election as Mayor in 1980, he’ll go down as the longest serving mayor in Canadian history, surpassing ‘Hurricane’ Hazel McCallion in 2016. He’s spent just over 44 years in his position, and another 15 as a Councillor, which some may consider to be a lifetime.
While Hamid served Milton as a Councillor prior to his run as an MPP, he doesn’t see himself as a lifelong politician.
One of the major talking points surrounding this recent election has been the healthcare system. There have been reports of the potential privatization of Ontario’s healthcare, something that Hamid downplays as ridiculous speculation.
His thoughts were largely the same when it came to education, as he felt the narrative around funding cuts for schools is unwarranted when looking at the track record over the PCs latest run in Queen’s Park.
Over the next four years, Hamid says his goals will be to build more homes in Milton, and to cut the red tape surrounding the development of affordable housing. He wants to address the transit issues, particularly the two-way, all-day GO service, as well as make progress on the Milton Education Village. Hamid also views Highway 413 as a necessity for Milton, and thinks the town will struggle with moving forward if it can’t be built soon.
Ultimately, he hopes he can represent Milton at Queen’s Park in a way that makes residents proud, as he voices and fights for issues that affect the community on a day-to-day basis.
MPP Hamid’s new constituency office is located at 159 Main Street East in Milton, where the interview was held. Residents can also contact him by email at zee.hamid@pc.ola.org and by phone at 905-878-1729.
