Good news!
The tariffs are reportedly being delayed by 30 days.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted to social media that Canada is working on stopping the flow of fentanyl from Canada into the United States, issuing a ‘Fentanyl Czar’ position to oversee the process. This announcement appears to have been enough appeasement to delay the expected tax on Canadian goods entering the US.
Hear from Milton MP Adam van Koeverden on the tariffs in the original article below:

Tariffs are still expected for Tuesday.
According to reports, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, February 3rd for the first time since Trump returned to the White House, with another call expected later. The two leaders discussed trade and border issues, but no further details have been released.
Trump later posted on Truth Social, claiming Canada blocks U.S. banks from operating there and again raised concerns about drugs crossing the border. This comes as Canada prepares to respond to Trump’s new tariffs—25% on imports and 10% on energy—with its own $30 billion in countermeasures.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Liberal leadership candidate Chrystia Freeland have been speaking on U.S. media, warning Americans about the economic fallout of a trade war. Ford told Fox and Friends that tariffs will drive up inflation and interest rates, while Freeland says Canadians are angry but united behind Trudeau.
Speaking with Milton Member of Parliament (MP), Adam van Koeverden, he calls the whole ordeal an unnecessary pain for both all parties involved, while backing the Prime Minister’s response.
Meanwhile, Mexico and the U.S. have agreed to delay their tariffs for a month, adding uncertainty to Canada’s situation. Until a similar deal is reached, Canadian provinces are preparing to promote local goods and cut U.S. products from shelves. Trudeau is also meeting with his Canada-U.S. Relations Council today as federal officials explore additional trade measures, including prioritizing Canadian companies for government contracts.
