The Ontario government is investing $1.3 billion to build 30 new schools and expand 15 existing ones, creating over 25,000 student spaces and 1,600 child care spots.
These projects target fast-growing areas to provide modern learning environments for students.
The funding, part of the Build Ontario plan, focuses on meeting community needs driven by population growth and housing developments.
“This is the second consecutive year that our government has made historic investments in new school construction and school expansion, as part of the government’s Build Ontario plan,” says Jill Dunlop, Minister of Education. “Under our plan, schools are being built faster and more efficiently than ever before so more students have access to a place to learn and prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.”
The 45 approved projects address urgent space needs, including access to French-language education, and aim to complete construction quickly.
The government is also simplifying processes to help school boards deliver projects efficiently and on budget.
