The Milton Public Library (MPL) is boasting about the technology available for visitors at their branches.
Their Sherwood Branch’s Tech Hub stands out as a key feature, equipped with the Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Mug Press, 3D printer, sublimation printer, coding kits, multimedia production software, an interactive digital screen and more. These tools allow patrons to bring their creative visions to life, from crafting intricate designs to customizing unique projects. This new technology will be introduced to the public over the next couple of months.
Earlier this year, Sherwood Branch also hosted the highly successful Tech Fair, attracting over 1,000 attendees. The event showcased 20 vendors from various tech industries, offering hands-on demonstrations and a chance to explore the latest advancements. The fair also marked the launch of tech collect project, allowing patrons to drop off discarded technology at the Sherwood Branch during regular hours, supporting sustainability and responsible recycling.
“At Milton Public Library, we’re committed to making technology accessible and empowering our community with tools to learn, create, and innovate,” says Sarah Douglas-Murray, CEO/Chief Librarian, Milton Public Library. “The success of events like Tech Fair and our diverse range of resources and programs reflect our mission to meet the evolving needs of our patrons and inspire lifelong learning.”
MPL’s commitment to innovation extends to its younger patrons, with all branches offering AWE tablets preloaded with over 75 educational programs that make learning fun and interactive. Six new desktop AWE stations, along with a new computer table, have recently been introduced at the Main Library. Additionally, all MPL branches offer laptop kiosks with iPads, MacBooks, and Dell laptops available for in-library use, alongside 3D printing services, public computers, and free Wi-Fi, ensuring equitable access to essential technology. The Main Library has introduced in-branch charging packs, allowing patrons to charge their phones, computers and other devices anywhere in the space.
MPL has introduced desktop stations at the Beaty and Sherwood branches to enhance accessibility for all patrons. The Main Library continues to offer these work stations. Recognizing that some patrons prefer not using portable devises, these stations ensure a comfortable and inclusive environment for everyone. These sit-down desktops reflect MPL’s commitment to making library services more accessible and welcoming to the entire community.
Complementing these resources is a range of engaging tech-related programming designed to empower patrons of all ages and skill levels. These workshops and sessions provide opportunities to explore new technologies, develop practical digital skills, and gain confidence in using innovative tools in a supportive and welcoming environment. Patrons are encouraged to explore available tech programs through the library’s website.
Milton Public Library invites the community to visit any branch and experience the incredible array of technological offerings, programming, and events that continue to enrich and empower Milton residents.
