The Crossing Guard Program in New Tecumseth could suffer due to cuts in the 2025 budget.
According to a study by WSP Canada Group, over half the current locations serviced by a school crossing guard have been identified as low traffic and low student areas. 12 of the 22 locations do not meet the minimum requirements to remain active, consisting of 30 students using the crossing within a 20 minute peak-time-period.
Here are the crossing guard locations that might be eliminated:
- Beeton
- Dayfoot St. and Danielles Gate.
- Patterson St. S. and Main St. E.
- Tecumseth St. and Main St.
- Centre St. N. and Dale Dr.
- Alliston
- Church St. and Victoria St.
- Church St. N. and Grey Ave.
- Boyne St. and John W. Taylor Ave.
- John W. Taylor Ave. and Davidson Dr.
- John W. Taylor Ave. and Gordon Dr.
- King St. S. MacKenzie St.
- King St. S. and Tupper Blvd.
- Grey Ave. and Oak St.
By reducing the number of paid crossing guards, the Town could find savings of over $171,000.
