The Milton Menace got a big win over the weekend.
On Friday, November 22nd, the Menace welcomed in the Leamington Flyers. The boys were looking for payback after being knocked out of the playoffs by the Flyers last spring. Their first shot at revenge failed in October, so this was a shot at redemption once again.
It was Spencer Vandenberg who scored first. The Menace forward netted his 7th of the year just five minutes into the game, assisted by Ashtyn Pacheco and Marco Costante. Later on the period, Pacheco got a goal of his own. His 7th of the season was assisted by Luke Johnston and Madden MacDougall. It was 2-0 Milton after 20 minutes of action.
In the second period, the Flyers got on the board. Aside from that, Milton outshot Leamington 14-8 and carried a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Flyers would tie things up in the third period, but Gavin Sheehan regained the lead a minute later. His 4th goal was assisted by Nathan Catalano and Ivan Fabjan. At the end of the game, MacDougall scored an empty netter. His 7th of the season, assisted by Ivan Fabjan and Pacheco, would give the Menace the 4-2 win.
In net, Austin McKillop stopped 28 of 30 shots for a .933% save percentage.
Would that win carry the momentum over to the Menace’s next game on Sunday, November 24th?
They went into Scotiabank Pond to take on the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. This is the first match-up between the teams since they made a blockbuster trade. The Menace sent their leading scorer Gabriel Ciarallo to Toronto in exchange for their Captain, Luke Johnston.
Things started off strong for the Menace as they got on the board first in the first. Ashtyn Pacheco buried his 8th of the year, assisted by Cole Semeniuk. Just before the end of the period, Tristan Tremble scored his 3rd of the season, once again assisted by Semeniuk. It was 2-0 Milton after 20 minutes.
The Jr. Canadiens would score three unanswered goals to start the second period. Johnston would end the run, scoring his 12th of the season, this time on his old team. It was assisted by Madden MacDougall and 16-year-old Ryder Cali. It was tied at 3-3 at the end of the frame.
The final period was uneventful from a scoring perspective, so this game went to overtime. That’s where an old friend would score the game winner. Ciarallo buried his 15th of the season, sending the Menace packing. Toronto beat Milton 4-3 in OT.
Austin McKillop was in net once again for Milton. The all-star stopped 27 of 31, giving him an .870% save percentage.
The Menace play next on Friday, November 29th. They take on the Toronto Patriots at the Milton Memorial Arena. Game time is listed for 7:30 p.m. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
