A Barrie resident had an unexpected guest earlier this week.
On Tuesday, November 12th, at roughly 6:30 p.m., a resident on Park Street arrived home to find an unknown man sleeping on his driveway near the garage. The homeowner immediately contacted the Barrie Police Service and upon arrival, the man was located lying in some bushes next to the driveway.
After confirming the identity of the man, it was determined that he was wanted on a warrant held by Barrie Police for Failing to Comply with Probation. The unnamed 35-year-old from Barrie was arrested. He was also found to be in possession of suspected Fentanyl and a quantity of Hydromorphone.
The man was then transported to Barrie Police Headquarters for further investigation. Later in the evening, he was released on an Undertaking after being formally charged with Fail to Comply with Probation and two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Opioid (other than heroin). He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on Wednesday, December 18th.
The Barrie Police Service is reminding the public that at anytime an unknown person is located on your property to do as this homeowner did and call the police. Police stress that under no circumstances should you ever approach an unknown individual as your personal safety could be compromised should that person be in possession of a weapon, medically unstable or under the influence of drugs.
