What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – 100 Women Who Care Milton celebrating 30 total meetings
It’s going to be an anniversary celebration for 100 Women Who Care Milton. The local group will be gathering next month for their fourth and final meeting of 2024. It will also be their 30th total meeting, and they want to make a splash with the big night. They’ll be at Country Heritage Park on Wednesday, October 9th. The group will listen to presentations made by three local charities. At the end of the meeting, each member will vote, and the winning charity will receive money from everyone in attendance. New members are welcome!
Daily WTF – Costco denies Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyer’s claim he bought baby oil ‘in bulk’ at wholesale giant
I don’t know if you’ve been following this whole Diddy saga, but it’s been a wild ride. One thing I want to focus on is the baby oil. When police raided Diddy’s place, they reportedly found 1000 bottles of lubricant and baby oil… Which, to put it lightly, is excessive. His lawyer was asked about this report, to which he responded that Diddy lived down the street from a Costco location and liked to buy in bulk (what a lawyer thing to say). It seems Costco didn’t like being connected to the man, so they’ve denied selling Diddy baby oil in bulk, seeing as how none of their US locations carry the product! Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges as he awaits trial in New York.
Daily Did You Know – RECAP WITH CAP: Weekly interview with Milton Menace captain Graeme MacAuley – Episode 6
The Menace are off to a hot start this OJHL season, especially coming off an extended weekend in Niagara Falls that saw them go 2-0 against teams in the Governor’s showcase. We caught up with captain Graeme MacAuley as he discusses the week that was, is, and will be!
Mattamy Homes announces new development along Milton’s Britannia Road
More homes are on the way here in Milton. The area continues to grow under the provincial government’s mandate. Mattamy Homes has announced a new development that will be built along Britannia Road. The company says the priorities with these units are affordability and efficiency. Milton is a pretty expensive place to live, so they’re hoping to add some cheaper real estate opportunities. Whether they will actually be cheap compared to other towns and cities, we’ll have to wait and see! They’re expected to be available as early as 2027, with full completion by 2029. Condos for $500,000 in 2029? In this area? I’ll be shocked if that’s the case.
Ford vows to build traffic tunnel under Highway 401 across GTA
I can’t tell if Premier Doug Ford loves traffic or hates it. He’s been under hot water with his plans to build Highway 413, which would develop on protected greenbelt land. His reasoning is how it would help alleviate traffic! Well, it seems a whole new 400-series highway isn’t enough for Dougie, as he’s vowed to now build a TRAFFIC TUNNEL underneath the 401 across the GTA. The proposal was apparently met with skepticism by Toronto’s City Hall. The Ministry of Transportation is looking at a starting point in Brampton or Mississauga and having it carry through to Scarborough or Markham, I guess serving as an underground bypass through the city. It also wouldn’t be tolled, which is good news. No word on timeline, but with how construction works in this area, I imagine I’ll be taking my grandkids on a drive through the brand new underground tunnel…
GOOD NEWS – Rachel Reeves announces £315m free breakfast club scheme to begin in primary schools next year
Not every child is able to get enough food to eat. It’s why we partner with Food4Kids Halton every year! Students need food for energy, and they need energy to learn – pretty simple, right? Well, the UK has announced a new plan to feed students. They’re launching a free breakfast club, with hundreds of millions of dollars being dished out to feed primary school students as early as next year. These students at 750 schools across England will get something to eat every day, and that is some good news!
Live Nation announces new Rogers Stadium with capacity of 50K in Toronto
There’s going to be a new concert venue in the GTA and it’s going to be massive. Live events monopoly Live Nation has announced that Rogers Stadium will be built in Toronto’s north end and will have a 50,000 person capacity. It’s being built at the former Downsview Airport lands, next to Downsview Park. There’s also supposed to housing on the property, so it could get busy up there very soon. They’re expecting the first show to be held in April of next year. With it being an open air venue, it will be a seasonal operation, but Premier Doug Ford says this will seriously help the tourism sector. 50,000 people! Expect there to be a lot more major concerts and festivals rolling through the GTA on a regular basis.
‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Series Sets Open Casting Call for Young Elle Woods
If you are a teenage blonde girl, you might have a shot at becoming a TV star. Reese Witherspoon announced on social media this week that they’re making a Legally Blonde prequel series, and they’re casting for a young version of her iconic character, Elle Woods. Thing is, it’s an open casting call! Witherspoon has a link in her bio on Instagram that people can use to submit their auditions. If you think you have enough blonde spunk to play Elle Woods, shoot your shot! You likely only have a few weeks before the process closes. Good luck!
Toronto WNBA team reveals 36 failed team name choices
The WNBA playoffs are in full swing right now. People are getting ready because in just two years time, Toronto will have their own team. The organization is in the middle of their creative process right now, which started with asking prospective fans for suggestions. Whether it was team names, logos, mascots, anything! They wanted fan input on the entire branding of the franchise. The team has since released an updated list, which includes all suggestions that have been nixed. 36 total names have been dropped to the cutting room floor, including the super popular ‘Towers’ and ‘Huskies’ options. Also on this list was ‘Pterodactyls’ and ‘Raccoons’. No word on what the team name will end up being, or when it will be announced. I’m just hoping we get some purple jerseys…
