Not everyone finds the joy in karaoke.
My wife and I were having this conversation because she’s terrified of the idea of singing in front of people.
So, I’ll ask you what I asked her:
- If you received $1 million for singing in a packed bar of attentive listeners, what would you sing?
Her pick was Lean On Me by Bill Withers.
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Multiple ponds in Milton will be going under construction
Just because summer is over doesn’t mean construction has to end. The Town of Milton sent out a notice yesterday, warning residents of multiple pond locations around the area that need some upgrades. Starting this month, 10 ponds will go under construction. Road closures are not expected, but lane closures are possible. You’re also not going to be able to walk around these specific ponds as they’re being worked on, so you might need to find a new walking route for the time being. The work should be done by November.
Daily WTF – Dozens let out of prison under emergency release scheme were freed by mistake
Over the UK, it was announced that roughly 1700 people were going to be released from prison to help limit overcrowding. Thousands more are expected over the coming weeks. The people expected to be released were low-risk individuals. Thing is, with that many people being let go, it seems a few exceptions snuck through the gates by accident. 37 convicts that weren’t meant to be freed were allowed to walk out the door. Most have since been recaptured, with five now outstanding. Sadly, one of them has already committed another offence, after reports of a woman being inappropriately touched came in. I’m just saying, if your job is to let low-risk criminals walk out of prison, maybe make sure you’re letting the right people go… Is that too much to ask for?
Daily Did You Know – 100 Women Who Care Milton celebrating 30 total meetings
It’s going to be an anniversary celebration for 100 Women Who Care Milton. The local group will be gathering next month for their fourth and final meeting of 2024. It will also be their 30th total meeting, and they want to make a splash with the big night. They’ll be at Country Heritage Park on Wednesday, October 9th. The group will listen to presentations made by three local charities. At the end of the meeting, each member will vote, and the winning charity will receive money from everyone in attendance. New members are welcome!
Milton truck driver becomes a millionaire with lottery win
It’s pretty hard to buy a home in Milton these days. You often need a lot of money to put towards a down payment, and then you need to be able to pay for a mortgage on a likely million dollar home. Not everyone can afford that! One person who now can afford that is Carlos Da Silva. The local truck driver managed to win the $1 million lottery earlier this month. In the most relatable way, he said his goal is to now become a homeowner. Congrats to Carlos! Reminder that this Friday’s jackpot is at $32 million… Surely you could buy a home with that!
Share your thoughts on how this major Milton road is upgraded
Trafalgar Road is being prepped for more construction and you actually have a say into what will be done to it. The Halton Region is getting the area between Steeles Avenue and Highway 407 ready for eventual expansion, and they’re looking for the public’s feedback on how to enhance the major road. That area is part of the Trafalgar Secondary Plan, which is where the Town is planning to add 32,000 residents and 4,000 jobs. If you’d like to join in on the feedback train, the survey can be found online. The deadline is Friday, October 18th.
Blue Jays set new ‘Loonie Dog’ record against Red Sox
Let’s be frank, here: Blue Jays fans love their hot dogs. A few years ago, the team decided to add what they call ‘Loonie Dog Nights’. For Tuesday home games, fans can head to the Rogers Centre and eat as many hot dogs they want, each one for $1. My wife and I, we went with some friends the night after the home opener, and I managed to eat seven hot dogs before they cut me off. I was going for double digits! But those seven dogs contributed to the new season record of 727,819. That’s a lot of mystery meat! How many hot dogs could you eat over the course of one baseball game? Looks like you’ll need to find out next year!
GOOD NEWS – Teen Channel swimmer had more than sea to battle
How far could you swim? I once managed to swim to the big cliff at Rockwood when I was a kid, and to me that was huge. It definitely doesn’t compare to what 17-year-old Lowenna North did recently. She managed to swim across the English Channel. The 33km swim took her nearly 15 hours, but she did it! She even managed to fight back waves while getting her calories in mid-swim. She’s alive, sore, and unable to move her right arm as much as usual, but she’s got her sights set on swimming over in New York City next… She’s braver than I, that’s for sure.
Moms are hiding $100 gift cards inside diaper boxes with a note about ‘deserving the purse’ — here’s why
From all accounts, having children is a very expensive endeavor. A lot of people make financial sacrifices while raising their kids, and that’s where the latest viral online challenge comes in. It’s called ‘She Deserves The Purse’, and it asks people to purchase $100 gift cards from stores, and leave them inside of diaper boxes with a note. The idea is that new parents who might be struggling and making those sacrifices can go out and buy themselves something nice, maybe even a new purse. So, if you’re a new parent, and you’re about to open a new box of diapers, maybe inspect the whole box… There might be a gift for you hiding inside!
Billie Eilish Partners With Google Maps to Direct Fans to Sustainable Options During Upcoming Tour
It’s not unusual for celebrities to partner with companies and brand labels to promote a product – it’s actually expected! What is unexpected is Billie Eilish’s latest deal… The singer has announced that she and Google Maps have joined together with a goal of sustainable options for transportation. Ahead of her upcoming tour, Eilish and Google Maps have put together eco-friendly transportation and plant-based food options in many of the places the 43-city world tour is hitting. This includes fuel efficient routes for driving, walking routes, bike-sharing options, and notices for public transportation. The idea is for each person attending a show to arrive in a way that’s beneficial for the planet, and maybe even your wallet. She’s in Toronto next week! If you’re going, check Google Maps first… You might find a new route that you didn’t know existed!
