Construction on a segment of a no longer used portion of the former Barrie Collingwood Railway is getting underway and is expected to last through to the spring of next year.
Phase one will see work on an 11-kilometre section between County Road 9 in New Lowell and Hwy. 26 in Stayner.
The decommissioned railway will be converted into a four-metre-wide multi-purpose trail.
The County of Simcoe took over the Collingwood section of the line in 2019.
The rails and ties between Angus and Stayner were removed last fall.
Phase 2 tree-clearing between New Lowell to Line 5 in Angus, is also expected to be completed this year.
The projected cost of the project is $2.2 million.
