The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) assisted in an investigation that eventually led to the arrest of a Welland man.
Between the end of August and the start of September, Hamilton Police noticed an increase in break-ins. During this time, local gas stations and nearby municipalities were specifically targeted for ATM thefts. Working with the HRPS, Niagara Regional Police, Brantford Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police, the Hamilton Police Break, Enter, Auto Theft & Robbery (BEAR) Unit eventually made a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
On Friday, September 6th, 23-year-old Justin Hicks was arrested in Hamilton and charged with multiple offenses, including:
- Six Counts of Break and Enter – Commit
- Break and Enter – Intent
- Break and Enter – Intent (attempt)
- Eight Counts Disguise with Intent
- Eight Counts Possession of Burglary Tools
- Possession Over $5,000 – Motor Vehicle
- Nine Counts of Failing to Comply with Probation
During the investigation, three search warrants were executed, leading to the recovery of numerous stolen items from local businesses. Investigators also located five stolen vehicles, including three pickup trucks and two high-end automobiles.
The Hamilton Police Service continues to collaborate with neighbouring police agencies, and further charges are anticipated.
