Tuesday’s lottery will hit a record… What would you do with $80 million?
I want you to really think about it:
- What are you buying?
- What are you donating?
- Where are you going?
- Who are you sharing with (and how do I get on that list)?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card
If you’ve thought about getting a library card recently, now is the time! The Milton Public Library has announced their annual Library Sign Up Month campaign for September. They’re telling everyone all about the great things that they provide, including free books, movies, video games, and more, along with free WiFi, access to computers and chromebooks, and printing services. They also have what’s called ‘The Library of Things’, where you can take out anything from sporting equipment to cooking appliances! Signing up is free, and remember, “having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card.”
Daily WTF – New beanless ‘coffee’ emerges but does it taste any good?
You very well could be on your third cup of coffee this morning as you read this. A lot of people rely on the ole bean water to get themselves through the day, but what if there wasn’t any bean in the bean water? A high-end coffee shop in San Francisco is experimenting with new forms of coffee, and they’ve developed a beanless coffee. The ingredients include date seeds, sunflower seed extract and pea protein, with the goal being to reproduce coffee’s original taste and caffeine levels. Would you try this new form of coffee? Or are you sticking to ol’ reliable? Let me know!
Daily Did You Know – The history behind Milton’s Brassard Circle and Wetenhall Landing
Every week, we speak with Milton Historical Society President John Challinor about the origins of local street names. This week, we covered a street named after a local police officer-turned-fire chief, as well as someone who helped establish Milton’s Main Street. We’ll have two more streets next week!
Burlington man celebrating lottery win with his family
A Burlington man is the latest local lottery winner! Luc Martin won more than $120,000 with a Lotto Max second prize last month. The first thing he did was call his wife and she couldn’t believe it! His plan is to upgrade his car and share with his children. Reminder that tomorrow’s jackpot is a record high of $80 million! It might be a good time to get some tickets… I’m just saying…
Air Canada, pilots reach tentative deal to avoid strike
It’s been an anxious few weeks, especially for those who fly often. Air Canada and their pilots were teasing an incoming strike. A lot of people can now breathe a sigh of relief because it was reported last night that a deal has been signed and the strike has been averted. 5200 pilots were expected to walk off the job (hopefully while they were still on the ground) and now they have a four-year deal in place. So, don’t worry! Your flights for work or last minute vacations will all take place… For now!
GOOD NEWS – Twelve-year-old girl helps rehome hundreds of hens
A 12-year-old girl in the UK spends her Saturdays doing something that most 12-year-olds wouldn’t even consider doing. Harriet and her mom work for a charity organization called Fresh Start for Hens. They receive hens that have lived through the commercial egg sector and they help rehome. The idea is these animals that have spent their entire life working in rather harsh conditions deserve a better life as they enter their senior years. In her time there, Harriet has helped save hundreds of hens from being slaughtered and found new homes for them… And that is some good news!
New details revealed during court hearing for suspect in death of NHL hockey player, brother
The trial has begun for Sean Higgins, the man who killed Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau earlier this month in New Jersey. Both brothers were biking on the side of the road when Higgins drove on the shoulder to illegally pass another vehicle, striking both bikers and killing them. Higgins was drunk at the time and is now going through the court process. According to his wife, he has a history of drinking and driving like a maniac, so there’s that. The judge denied him bail and he could face up to 20-years in prison. All in all, a very sad experience for everyone involved.
Emmys 2024: full list of winners
The Emmys were last night! Hosting the evening was the father-and-son duo of Eugene and Dan Levy, creators and stars of Schitt’s Creek. They weren’t trending by the end of the night, so to me, that means they did their jobs. Who were the big winners? Well, Shogun had a bunch of winners. The show won best drama, as well as leading actor and actress. Baby Reindeer won a few awards, as did Hacks and The Bear. One thing that people were talking about was John Oliver being played off while sharing about the death of his dog, and swore at the producers on live TV, so that’s fun. We’re starting to get into the thick of award show season, so get ready for more red carpets and more drama… It always comes!
Court allows copyright infringement suit over Dua Lipa’s megahit Levitating to proceed
Dua Lipa is in court and it’s not for a good reason! It was reported last year that the singer and her studio were being sued for infringement. She’s being accused of stealing one of her biggest songs: Levitating. Lipa and Warner Music Group tried to get the case thrown out of court, but it’s being reported this week that this case will proceed. Artist and producer Bosko Kante says Dua Lipa and Warner Music Group used a recording of his without his permission on three remixes of Levitating. He’s asking for at least $2 million plus interest in damages, and potentially up to $20 million in revenue. This kind of stuff happens all the time, with people saying big pop stars and their studios have stolen aspects of their own work to produce big hits. The issue here is that Kante is talking about his own voice being used without his permission, so he has a bit more of a case than most. We’ll see how it goes!
