ICYMI – ‘Garden of Hope’ debuts at Milton library
The Milton Public Library has unveiled their ‘Garden of Hope’ at the Beaty branch on Fourth Line. The painted rocks will sit along the side of the library and display messages of hope and inspiration. This new feature was done with the Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition, a collaboration of individuals and organizations in Halton that work together to provide leadership, advocacy and education in the areas of suicide awareness and support.
Daily WTF – Massachusetts man buys $395,000 house despite warnings it will ‘fall into ocean’
The housing market is a near impossible thing to navigate. Either you pay too much for a great home or you pay a little less for a place with some flaws. Regardless, it’s going to be the biggest purchase of your life. For a Massachusetts man, his home is less than perfect. He paid just under $400,000 for a beautiful home on the coast of Cape Cod. His backyard literally walks out towards the sea. Thing is, he got quite the deal, getting it 67% off the original asking price from 2022. The reason why? Well, the home is falling into the sea. Experts say the shoreline in Cape Cod is eroding 3ft every year. It’s very possible that in just a few years time, this home will be inhabitable. But the new owner says he’s willing to take that bet. He’s rolling the dice… And they might just roll right into the sea.

GOOD NEWS – She couldn’t go to her daughter’s graduation, so the hospital brought it to her
NPR shared the story of Susan Kahn recently. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was admitted to a local hospital. It’s a very tough form of cancer, and she wasn’t able to get admittance to leave for her daughter’s graduation. That’s when the hospital staff and some friends hatched a plan. They decided to bring the graduation to Kahn. A week before the actual ceremony, dozens of people crowded into the hospital room. The daughter entered the room in full graduation cap and gown and was handed her diploma there in the room. The hospital also put together a reception in the room next door, which included drinks and snacks. Susan Kahn died a few days later, just before the actual ceremony took place. But she got to see her daughter graduate high school, and that’s some good news!
Viral game is coming back after decade-long hiatus
A mobile game that took the world by storm is set to return to your phone really soon. Ten years ago, Flappy Bird was the biggest thing on the planet. The mobile game required the user to tap the screen, and every tap moved the little animated bird up as it flapped its way through little scrolling obstacle courses. If you’re too old or too young, I can’t stress enough how big this thing was for a specific generation of people. If you had an iPhone, you had Flappy Bird, and you played that thing every day. It had 50 million downloads in 2014… Like it was huge! But, out of nowhere, the game disappeared. That was, until now… Set for next year, Flappy Bird will be returning to digital stores. You have a few months to prepare… The Flappening cometh…
There’s a wife-carrying competition in Canada and the prizes are beer and cash
If your husband had to pick you up and carry you, how far could he get? If the answer is “pretty far,” then you might want to enter the ‘Wife-Carrying Competition’ in Alberta. This thing is held every year at the Lakeland County Fair in northern Alberta. Competitors run the race course two teams at a time. The three fastest teams qualify for prizes. It’s no walk in the park, though, as the course is nearly three football fields long and features dry and wet obstacles. The winning team gets the wife’s weight in beer and five times her weight in cash, with the runner-up teams receiving half or one-third of that amount. Pro-tip, guys, don’t ask her how much she weighs… Even if you might get the equivalent amount in beer…
Rock Used as Doorstop For Decades Turns Out to Be Worth Over $1 Million
Do you have a doorstop in your home? Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had this little brick covered in wool dressed up to look like a train. I’m now 30 years old and my wife and I still use this doorstop. Thing is, I know for a fact that it is NOT worth $1 million. A woman in Romania couldn’t say the same thing, as she was using a very valuable rock as a doorstop for decades! The 3.5 kilogram stone was found in a nearby riverbed. She thought it looked cool so she brought it home. Turns out, it’s one of the biggest intact chunks of amber in the world, and is valued at more than $1 million US. This woman eventually passed away, and a relative took on this cool looking stone. They eventually though, “huh, how much is this thing worth?” That’s when they got the answer. Not a bad inheritance!
