Two suspects were arrested following a summer-long investigation into local drug trafficking.
On Wednesday, August 28th, Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officers arrested 31-year-old Michael Akuffo of Mississauga and 31-year-old Tre Wynter of Brampton for their involvement.
Investigators also executed search warrants on an associated vehicle and residence in Mississauga. As a result, police seized the following:
- A loaded Glock 9mm prohibited compact handgun
- A loaded Bersa 9mm handgun (loaded with hollow point rounds)
- 1 kilogram of cocaine
- 1 ounce of crystal methamphetamine
- 112 oxycodone pills
- Other indicia including scales packaging and bundled currency
Akuffo has been charged with:
- Possession of a loaded firearm x2
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle x2
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
- Careless storage of a firearm x2
- Possession of a prohibited device x1
- Trafficking a controlled substance – cocaine
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x4 (cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone)
Wynter has been charged with:
- Possession of a loaded firearm x2
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle x2
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
- Careless storage of a firearm x2
- Possession of a prohibited device x1
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x4 (cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone)
Both Akuffo and Wynter were held in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday, August 29th.
