This weekend is the last before school starts next week!
What should kids do this weekend to get the most out of their summer break?
Trip to The Ex? A day at the new Kelso Waterpark? For the older ones, maybe get together with friends before they head off to Uni?
Any other ideas?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Here’s why Esquesing Line in Milton has been closed
If you’re like me and one day you drove down Esquesing/4th Line and the next day it was closed, then good news – we have an answer as to why it’s closed! The Town of Milton says the closure is for the construction of a storm sewer box culvert. It’s expected to remain closed until Thursday, December 5th, pending any issues. So, if you’ve found a new way around it, whether it’s taking 25, Boston Road Church or just heading all the way down to Trafalgar, you essentially have to stick to that plan until the winter.
Daily WTF – Experts are blaming humidity on sweaty corn
If you find this year to be especially humid, then you might need to look at nearby crops as to why that is. A Canadian expert on climate change says “evapotranspiration” is a major factor in the rising temperatures and humidity levels. What is that? Well, he also calls it “crop sweat.” It seems the more crops we have, the more they sweat, which means the more humidity going out into the air. It’s particularly noticeable with corn fields! So, if you’re annoyed with how humid it’s been as of late, maybe stop spending so much time at Allison’s Farm. The corn is good, but it also might be why you feel so moist.
Daily Did You Know – New program for lung cancer treatment opens at local hospital
A new program has opened up at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, and it’s one that’s close to my heart. They’ve launched the Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program. It’ll give residents some local ease of mind as they can now get assessed and treated for lung issues close to home. My mom died of lung cancer in 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic. I’ve wondered since that maybe she could have gotten better and more immediate treatment if the circumstances had been different, and a program like this will definite help others moving forward – which is great!
Here’s what is open/closed in Milton this Labour Day long weekend
You might be wondering how this long weekend is going to affect your errand-running plans. Well, if you’re looking to get together with friends sometime over the next three days, make sure you get your drinks sooner rather than later. The LCBO is expected to be closed on Labour Day, and Beer Stores can be hit or miss of long weekends. The Milton Mall will be closed on Monday, but the Outlet Mall will be opened with special hours. Milton Transit will be off the road as well, and Town Hall is expected to be closed. If you have books to return to the library, or you want to get something for the long weekend, do so soon because the Milton Public Library will be closed. Expect everything to return to normal by Tuesday and enjoy your long weekend!
GOOD NEWS – Humboldt Broncos survivor Jacob Wassermann debuts at Paralympics on Day 2
The 2024 Paralympics are underway! Canada already got a medal, but one athlete who is making the headlines this morning is Jacob Wassermann. If the name sounds familiar, he’s one of the 13 people who survived the Humboldt Broncos crash back in 2018. He was paralyzed from the waist down, ending any dream of playing goaltender in the National Hockey League. That hasn’t crushed his athletic dreams entirely, as Wassermann is two years into rowing and is now competing in Paris representing Canada! And that is some good news!
Real-Life Krabby Patties and Pineapple Frosties Coming to Wendy’s for a Special SpongeBob Occasion
Wendy’s is about to take a trip down to Bikini Bottom to visit a Pineapple Under The Sea. The fast food chain has announced a collaboration with SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s to mark 25 years of the super popular kids show. Customers can order a real life version of the famous Krabby Patties, as well as a Pineapple-flavoured Frosty. The new items will hit stores this October, including select locations in Canada. I’m just hoping they’ll launch the Krusty Krab Pizza with Pizza Hut or something. It truly is the pizza for you and me.
An alligator is on the loose in Lake Erie… Seriously
You might want to avoid getting into Lake Erie anytime soon. Reports have come in that an alligator has been spotted multiple times swimming in the nearby Great Lake. Officials believe with how north the water is that this alligator was likely a pet that escaped or was let loose. It’s also believed that if the reptile isn’t caught soon, it’ll likely die over the winter. There’s a reason we don’t have them in Canada! So, if you’re heading south to somewhere near Lake Erie for the long weekend, be safe!
Pizza Hut is offering a pizza box that folds into a table
My wife and I just finished moving earlier this month. A major staple of moving is inviting friends and family to help, and in return, you offer drinks and pizza. It appears as though Pizza Hut wants to help all movers moving forward as they have released a new type of pizza box. Instead of your standard pizza box, this one is shaped to fold like a table. The pizza chain says it can help anyone and everyone who’s moving and might be too tired or too cluttered to get to the table. So far, it’s only available in southern US states, but there’s a chance it comes to Canada in the near future. If I move again, I might have to give Pizza Hut a call!
