Two people have been arrested following gunshot-like sounds were heard in Oakville.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) arrived on scene at 7:27 p.m. on Monday, August 28th after reports of a loud bang in the residential area of Victoria Street and Chalmers Street. Two suspects were seen fleeing the area in a vehicle. Officers quickly located the vehicle and the suspects were arrested a short time later.
They were found in possession of a sawed-off rifle. Given there were numerous reports of a loud bang around the time of the incident, police do believe the rifle was discharged. No injuries were reported and investigators are attempting to determine the purpose of the discharge.
25-year-old David Hilchey of Oakville has been charged with the following:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Carry a Concealed Weapon
- Disguise with Intent
Hilchey was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
A 16 year old Burlington boy has been charged with the following:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Carry a Concealed Weapon
- Disguise with Intent
- Fail to Comply with a Youth Sentence Order
The youth was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police are requesting residents in the area of Victoria Street and Riverview Street in Oakville to examine their CCTV systems (audio or video) between the times of 7:10 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for any footage that may have captured the suspects.
