How do you keep in touch with your friends over the years?
I touched on this in the past few weeks, but I’ve hatched a plan to get my friends from college into football. They agreed to do a fantasy football league with me, which starts tonight.
But, the reason why I’m doing this is something I think most adults can relate to on a relationship basis. It’s hard to make and maintain friendships as the years go by! Throw in hosting a morning show where my bedtime is typically around 7-8pm, and it makes things even harder.
So, how do you spend time with your friends in adulthood? My mom was a big “tea” person, so her friends would come over for a cup of tea, they’d gossip for hours about anything and everything, and that happened maybe once a week.
What’s your strategy? Coffee? Dinner? Do you play games or activities with your friends?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Registration open for local Citizen Police Academy course
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like working for the Halton Police, you can take a course that dives into all of that! The HRPS has spots open for their Citizen Police Academy course this fall. It’s nine-weeks, and will include classroom work and live demonstrations, providing a look behind the scenes and at the officers who work there. Just don’t expect it to be like the movies.
Daily WTF – Wrongful death suit against Disney serves as a warning to consumers when clicking ‘I agree’
A woman is dead following an allergic reaction to food at Disney Springs in Florida. This has led to a lawsuit because it’s reported the person asked before eating if the food had any allergens. Staff said no, and it turns out, it did. The lawsuit is getting very messy, as Disney is using an interesting defence. They say that because the woman’s husband signed up for a free trial for Disney Plus back in 2019, they are not at-fault in the death. That’s a real argument being made in this case. So, keep that in mind the next time you say ‘I Agree’ when signing up for something… You might literally be signing your life away.
Daily Did You Know – The history behind Milton’s Izumi Gate and Mockridge Terrace
It’s Street Name Monday. Each week, we hear from Milton Historical Society President John Challinor as he details the origins of two local street names. That includes Izumi Gate and Mockridge Terrace, streets named after a world famous angler and a long-time local librarian. We’ll have more streets next week!
Hear Premier Doug Ford, Milton MPP Zee Hamid, and Milton Mayor Gord Krantz at FordFest
FordFest was held in Milton on Friday night. I went to Country Heritage Park to cover the event. I got berated by the protesters outside the park, which was a strange experience. Someone looked me in the eyes and told me I was killing the greenbelt, and I wanted to stop my car and be like, “I’m just here as media, leave me alone.” But the event happened. There was music, free food, rides. The music was VERY loud, I will say that. Almost obnoxiously loud, like, it hurt my ears when we were asked to stand at the stage. I recorded the speeches, uploaded them. If you want to hear from Milton Mayor Gord Krantz, Milton MPP Zee Hamid, and Premier Doug Ford, check them out!
Here’s where you should (and should not) swim in Halton (August 16th)
The Halton Region says most of the beaches in the area have REMAINED safe for swimming. If you’re looking to cool down from this hot summer, then you can try heading to a local beach. The Region routinely samples the water to make sure they are safe for visitors. Nine beaches were checked, with SIX being determined to be safe for swimming. That includes Milton’s Kelso Beach and their new waterpark. You are cautioned that things can change day-to-day and even hour-to-hour thanks to rainfall and other factors. The rule they have is if you can’t see your feet while standing in waist high water as an adult, don’t go swimming!
GOOD NEWS – After 7 years and almost $100K, Canadian woman born without arms and short legs can now drive
A Hamilton woman is finally able to drive after years of work, and thousands of dollars. Talli Osborne was born without arms and shortened legs. She’s been working in Las Vegas as a motivational speaker, detailing her life. One thing she’s always wanted to do is drive, and that’s become a reality recently. Osborne has spent seven years and nearly $100,000 to customize a vehicle that can match her needs. She recently significant help from War Amps Canada, and she’s now able to get around with her bright red Mini Cooper… And that’s some good news!
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ Throwback Duet
The most 2013 duet has officially happened. Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga have teamed up for a new single, called ‘Die With a Smile’. It’s a love song about the end of the world. Listen to it here. What do you think? It’s a very pretty song, and it’s nice when Lady Gaga can actually bounce off an equally talented singer. Let me know your thoughts!
Schitt’s Creek stars Eugene and Dan Levy to host Emmy Awards
The Emmy Awards are about to get a splash of Canadian. Father-and-son acting duo Eugene and Dan Levy have been announced as the hosts for this year’s ceremony. It’ll be a return of sorts, as the duo racked up all the awards at the 2020 pandemic show for the final season of Schitt’s Creek. They’ll have a month to prepare for the role, with the show taking place on Sunday, September 15th. Should be good!
European airline announces annual ‘all you can fly’ pass
Would you take a ride on the ‘buffet of the sky’? Wizz Airlines, based out of Europe, is offering a one-of-a-kind deal. Flyers can use the budget-airline to fly all year round for a one-time cost. For 499 euros, you can get an annual ‘all you can fly’ pass, which will take you to a number of destinations anytime in the year. On the list of locations is much of Europe, the Mediterranean and even the Middle East. You’re allowed up to three a flights a day. Would you take this offer? Or are you worried about the QUALITY of such a cheap flight. There are plenty of things you can go cheap on, but I don’t think flying at 860 km/h is on that list.
