I’m attending a wedding next week.
One of my wife’s closest friends will officially tie the knot with her fiancé. They started dating around the same time as my wife and I, so this is more than ten years in the making!
Each guest is allowed to request one song for the playlist.
Do you have a go-to dance song for weddings? I’m thinking ‘Footloose’ would be a good one!
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Author Waubgeshig Rice speaks about bestselling series and coming to Milton this fall
Waubgeshig Rice is a bestselling author who will be featured in the Milton Public Library’s ‘One Book One Milton’ annual event. He’s coming to town this fall, and you can see him live at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, as he discussing his hit book ‘Moon of the Crusted Snow’ and its new sequal ‘Moon of the Turning Leaves’. We spoke with him ahead of the event, as he talks about his books, his career, and more.
Daily WTF – Mark Zuckerberg reveals 7ft statue of wife
The rich are different than you and I, and nothing perfectly represents that more than a gift Mark Zuckerberg presented to his wife. The Facebook founder and billionaire commissioned a seven-foot-tall Romanesque statue of his wife. He posted a photo of her standing next to it in a bathrobe, drinking coffee. I get that billionaires probably aren’t going to Sobeys to get a $12 bouquet of flowers like the average Joe, but I also feel like ‘SCULPTURE OF YOUR WIFE’ is a little too far in the other direction. There’s gotta be a middle ground here.
Daily Did You Know – You can “cram” a Halton Police cruiser with food donations this weekend
If you’ve ever wanted to “cram” a police cruiser, you’ll have your chance this weekend! The Halton Police are holding their annual fundraiser. On Saturday, officers will be in the parking lot of the Longo’s at 2900 Walkers Line in Burlington, collecting food and personal hygiene donations for the Burlington Food Bank. If you can’t make that food drive, why don’t you stop by John’s No Frills in Milton today and check out our 6th annual ‘All Hands on Deck’ food drive!
Local road closes due to sinkhole
Commuters here in North Halton might have been affected by a road closure last night. This has led me to create a new segment, one that I’m affectionately calling ‘GOOD GOD, WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!?!’ Eighth Line between 5 Side Road and Steeles Avenue had to suddenly close yesterday because of what the Halton Region has called “a sinkhole.” Yeah, a sinkhole closed Eighth Line yesterday. I drove by it at 3:30 a.m. this morning to see what the situation looked like. It was still closed as crews were working away. No reports of any injuries, but I’d imagine there were people thinking, “GOOD GOD, WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!?!” as they came across it. We’ll let you know if there are any updates on the sinkhole made available.
What will winter be like in Canada? Farmers’ Almanac releases extended forecast
Every few months, we get updates from the Farmers’ Almanac as they release their extended forecasts. This is when they take their crystal balls and look months into the future to see what the next season or two will look like. They had said our area is expecting a “fair and dry” autumn, and now they have their winter predictions. They say most of Canada will be blanketed with a whirlwind of rain and snow due to a La Nina weather pattern. That includes us near the Great Lakes. If you hate slushy winters, get ready, because it seems we’ve got one in store for us. Take it all with a grain of salt, though. I remind you every time, even Environment Canada refuses to project two weeks in advance, let alone TWO SEASONS. It could very well end up as a dry winter for all we know. Fingers crossed!
GOOD NEWS – Britain experiencing a beaver baby boom as kits spotted across the country
For up to 400 years, beavers had been extinct across the UK. That all changed about 20 years ago, and it seems Britain has experienced a bit of a ‘beaver baby boom’ ever since. According to experts, there are now about 1,500 beavers in Scotland and anywhere from 600 to 800 in England. It seems like they aren’t slowing down, either, as these have been some busy beavers – in more ways than one… And that’s some good news!
All Hands on Deck Food Drive returns to John’s No Frills this week
Today is the day! We’ll be LIVE ON LOCATION at John’s No Frills for our 6th annual ‘All Hands on Deck’ food drive. I’ve been a part of every single one, and am up pumped to be a part of another! We’re collecting food donations for Food4Kids Halton, who are helping ensure that no child across the region goes hungry. John himself (of John’s No Frills) has made things easy by packaging together $5 grab bags at all cash registers. Pay for those, bring them to us outside, and they’ll go right in the back of the big Wallace Chevrolet truck. The goal is to fill that thing as many times as possible. We’ll be there from 10am to 3pm. I hope we see you there!
Janet Jackson Reveals She’s Related to Three Mega-Famous Stars
The Jackson family is THE Royal Family of Music, especially consider Michael was known as the ‘King of Pop’. But according to Janet Jackson, the family is bigger, and even more famous, than we thought. During a BBC radio interview, the singer started diving into her famous cousins. The list included Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, and even Samuel L. Jackson. Now, this is all according to Janet Jackson, with absolutely zero confirmation when it comes to blood-relation side of things. It’s also somewhat up to debate what even classifies as a cousin. I had a friend growing up who referred to all of his dad’s friends as ‘Uncles’ and therefore their kids as ‘Cousins’. One might argue that we all are cousins to the Nth degree. But yeah, for now, I’ll choose to believe that Stevie Wonder and Janet Jackson are related, because that’s the more fun outcome of all this. Why not, right?
Detroit judge orders teen to put on jail clothes, handcuffs during field trip
Be careful who you fall asleep around. A judge in Detroit was unhappy that a 16-year-old girl was repeatedly falling asleep during a field trip and decided to teach her a lesson. Judge Kenneth King warned her several times as she nodded off during the presentation, eventually sending her off in handcuffs and to wear jail clothes. He even threatened her with Juvenile Detention time if she didn’t stay awake. The ‘scared straight’ tactic didn’t seem to land with everyone, as he’s been criticized online for this decision. Reports say the girl is now traumatized by the experience, and the non-profit behind the tour is unhappy about the whole thing. What do you think? Did the judge pick on an innocent girl, or was he in the right to try and scare her from acting up? Let me know!
