Jimmy Kimmel says he believes late night shows will cease to exist on network TV within the next ten years.
What he means is they’ll likely all be on streaming services by then. Netflix, Peacock, Amazon, HBO, etc.
I used to stay up and watch late shows when I was in high school. Conan O’Brien and Craig Ferguson were my guys, but now both of them are off TV and are doing podcasts. It’s funny to see the change in broadcasting over the years.
Do you still watch late night shows? Which ones do you watch?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Ontario Premier Doug Ford holding festival in Milton
FordFest is coming to Milton! The annual festival is typically held in Premier Doug Ford’s home riding of Etobicoke, but it’s coming here later this week. Ford will be there, along with Milton’s MPP Zee Hamid. There’ll be free food, music, and rides. That’s all happening this Friday at Country Heritage Park, starting at 5pm.
Daily WTF – ‘Seagull insurance’ £1 added to bill as birds steal food from St Andrews’ Cheesy Toast Shack
We’ve all been to the beach on a hot summer. You get some food and in come the seagulls, attacking you for your food like a landlord you haven’t paid your monthly rent to yet. A sandwich shop in the UK is looking to help you in this scenario, and offering $1 seagull insurance with your order. The owner says this kind of stuff happens all the time, and when their customers lose their sandwiches to the gulls, they always provided a free one to make up for it. So, they decided to create ‘seagull insurance’. It runs on the honour system, and will hopefully salvage some of the revenue they were bleeding by just giving the second sandwiches for free. As for the seagulls, everything’s free in their eyes. They live in a world where money doesn’t exist… And I’m really jealous, to be honest.
Daily Did You Know – This local road is closed for the rest of the month
It wouldn’t be summer in Milton without a particular sliver of Appleby Line closing for construction! The Town of Milton says Appleby between Derry and Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area’s entrance has closed for the rest of the month. Keep an eye out for detour routes, which I’m sure you’re used to finding at this point. The closure is expected to last through August. No exact reopening date has been provided.
All Hands on Deck Food Drive returns to John’s No Frills this week
In just two days, we’ll be LIVE ON LOCATION at John’s No Frills for our 6th annual ‘All Hands on Deck’ food drive. I’ve been a part of every single one, and am up pumped to be a part of another! We’re collecting food donations for Food4Kids Halton, who are helping ensure that no child across the region goes hungry. John himself (of John’s No Frills) has made things easy by packaging together $5 grab bags at all cash registers. Pay for those, bring them to us outside, and they’ll go right in the back of the big Wallace Chevrolet truck. The goal is to fill that thing as many times as possible. We’ll be there from 10am to 3pm on Thursday, August 15th. If you can’t make it, stop by John’s No Frills between now and then and you can round up your grocery total to make a donation directly to Food4Kids Halton. That said, I hope we see you there!
Flavor Flav Offers Jordan Chiles a Bronze Clock Necklace amid Olympics Scoring Controversy
As the aftermath of the Paris summer games winds down, a lot of people are talking about Jordan Chiles. The US gymnast is in the middle of a scoring controversy that’s taking away her bronze medal that she won in the gymnastics floor exercise final. She was announced as a last second finalist following a scoring inquiry, just narrowly beating out a Romanian gymnast as she was celebrating the third place finish (very sad to watch on live television). But, now Chiles is the one having the medal taken away from her, as several scores have been readjusted after the fact, placing her in fifth instead of third. So, with her medal being taken away, rapper and all around good guy, Flavor Flav has announced he’ll support Chiles in a unique way. Known for his oversized clock necklace that he wears at all time, Flav says he’ll commission and pay for a one-of-a-kind bronze clock necklace, which he says can’t be taken away from Chiles. No word on if she’s taken him up on the offer.
Leafs expected to name Matthews as new captain on Wednesday
The Toronto Maple Leafs only know how to do things in weird ways, and this story is no exception. After serving five years as the captain of the Leafs, it’s reported that John Tavares will have the ‘C’ on his chest stripped for this upcoming season, and the captaincy will be awarded to Auston Matthews. Tavares will remain with the team. This would make him the 26th captain in franchise history. There is precedence for this kind of thing in hockey, with the San Jose Sharks having done something similar twice in recent years. They replaced captain Patrick Marleau with Joe Thornton, while keeping Marleau around. A few years later, they did the same thing again, going from Thornton to Joe Pavelski. John Tavares has one year left on his contract. We’ll see if he sticks around in Toronto after this season, but it kind of seems like big things are bubbling for the Leafs… Fingers crossed they can finally win the cup, but I definitely won’t hold my breath.
GOOD NEWS – This 14-Year-Old Olympic Skateboarding Champ Won A Pet Duck… Oh, And A Gold Medal
We spoke last week about 14-year-old Arisa Trew, who won the gold medal in women’s skateboarding. The Australian is a gold medalist, and now a DUCK owner. She had an agreement with her parents that if she won at the Olympics, then they’d buy her a pet duck. A few kickflips later, she’s now deciding on a name for the little yellow feathered fella… And that is some good news!
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics Will Feature New (And Old) Sports
The Olympics are over, and we’re all looking ahead to Milan 2026 for the Winter Olympics. If the summer games are more your thing, the 2028 games will happen in Los Angeles, and they’ll have a few new events to check out. After years of being out of the picture, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and cricket have all be reinstated for the next edition. There will also be two new events, with squash and flag football being added to the list. We’ll see if pro players will be able to take part, because that would definitely make baseball, lacrosse, and football EXTRA interesting.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively face each other at the box office
For the first time in 34 years, a married couple are duking it out for the top spot at the box office. Ryan Reynolds and his movie ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ surpassed the billion dollar marker over the weekend, raking in $54 million domestically. Right behind him was his wife Blake Lively’s film, ‘It Ends With Us’. It made $50 million domestically, and $80 million worldwide, more than tripling its budget on its opening weekend. Can you name the last married couple to go head-to-head at the box office? It was in 1990 when ‘Die Hard 2’ and ‘Ghost went up against each other. Yes, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Bit of a blast from the past there. We’ll see if Ryan and Blake can keep this up for another weekend.
