Toronto’s soon-to-be WNBA team is asking people to submit their suggestions for the franchise.
You can suggest the team name, colours, logo, mascot – ANYTHING!
People online are sharing their feedback, with Towers, Velocity, and Thunder being popular ones. I’m a fan of going with pink and black, making them look like the Hart Foundation.
What would you name the team? What other suggestions do you have for them?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Enjoy free movie nights outdoors at Country Heritage Park
You can spend a pair of Friday nights this month outside watching free movies under the stars! The Milton Film Festival is holding two screenings at Country Heritage Park. The first of which will be on Friday, August 23rd, and it will be a screening of the new blockbuster ‘Twisters’. The following Friday will have a more kid-friendly screening of ‘Ratatouille’. Bring your chairs and blankets, as well as cash for the snacks booth. Parking will be free. Both events will start at 8:15 p.m.
Daily WTF – Samsung is recalling 1 million stoves that let pets set homes on fire
Your electric stove top could be a fire hazard. Samsung is recalling roughly 1 million knobs on their electric stoves, with the reasoning being that you or your pets could easily bump into them and turn them on. If you or Fido don’t realize the stove is on, that could be a very dangerous thing. So, if you have a Samsung stove, do a quick search and see if you qualify. You’ll either get new, safer knobs or a cover for the existing ones. Probably a good thing to have, all things considered.
Daily Did You Know – Local tennis courts closing again for more construction
If all the Olympic action has you wanting to get outdoors more, maybe play a few games of tennis, you’ll want to avoid a certain set of local tennis courts. The Town of Milton says the courts at Optimist Park on Savoline Boulevard will be going BACK under construction. This is phase two of their upgrading process, with phase one having happened in the spring. The closure starts next week, and it should run for roughly two weeks, weather permitting. In the meantime, you can find OTHER tennis courts around town.
Remembering Robin Williams this weekend
I don’t know about you, but I know exactly where I was ten years ago this Sunday. I was standing in the middle of the factory that I worked at with my dad. I was taking a year off from school to save money for college. Our machine was broken, so we called over the in-house engineers to take a look. While that happened, I checked my phone, I scrolled through Twitter, and I read that Robin Williams had died. I don’t remember the rest of the day or the week or the month, but I remember that moment. He was such a pivotal part of my childhood, and has remained one in my adulthood. I miss the man. I never met him, and I deeply miss him like he was a relative or close friend. It’s strange! This Sunday will be the ten-year anniversary of his death, and the people who did know him are sharing these fantastic stories about him, I recommend you go and read all of them. Rest in peace to Robin Williams; he would have been 73 years old.
GOOD NEWS – Liverpool library torched by far-right rioters raises repair funds
Maybe it’s because I’m married to a librarian, but I genuinely believe that a community is only as good as its public library. For the people of Liverpool, their library was burned down by far-right rioters over the weekend. In the wake of the chaos, residents managed to pull together $120,000 to help with the rebuilding process. That money is only expected to grow, and it will be used to patch together a vital piece of a community, and hopefully, play a key role in the healing process… And that is some good news!
Shawn Mendes Releases Music Video for Brand-New Single ‘Why Why Why’ from Upcoming Fifth Album
After teasing new music just a few weeks ago, we officially have new music from Shawn Mendes. The Pickering, Ontario-boy released a music video for a new single called ‘Why Why Why’ yesterday. It was actually his 26th birthday yesterday, so happy belated birthday to Shawn Mendes. Here’s the song. What do you think? It’ll be a part of his 5th album, ‘Shawn’, coming out October 18th. Should be good!
Kesha Celebrates 15 Years of ‘TiK ToK’ as She Confirms She’s Permanently Changing the Song’s Diddy Lyric
Believe or not, it’s been 15-years since Kesha released ‘TiK ToK’, the biggest of her list of hit singles. The anniversary also happens to fall in line directly with it reaching 1 billion streams on Spotify. Kesha’s been having a bit of a comeback as of late, and to mark the collection of occasions, she decided to celebrate in a unique way. The song mentions brushing her teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniels, and so Kesha posted a video of her doing JUST THAT. The song also has some glowing praise for Diddy, who has become a bit of a controversial figure in 2024. Kesha announced that she will be permanently changing the song lyrics for the song to remove all mention of Diddy. What were you doing 15 years ago today? I was 14-years-old, about to turn 15, and getting ready for Grade Ten… And probably listening to TiK ToK by Kesha for the first time.
Could 2 NASA astronauts be stuck at the space station until next year?
A lot of people, when they’re young, they want to become astronauts. If you’re Chris Hadfield, you actually become one, right? For everyone else, you either realize how hard it is to become an astronaut or you realize how terrifying it would be to actually be up in space. Well, those nightmares are somewhat becoming a reality for two particular astronauts. Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have been up on the International Space Station since early June. Thing is, they were only supposed to be up there for eight days. Why? Well, Boeing has been having issues, not with just their planes, but with their space ships as well. The planned Boeing Starliner was supposed to bring them home after the eight days, but that has been delayed… and delayed… and delayed. It’s unclear if the ship has been fixed enough to safely bring them home. There’s talk that they might have to wait until NEXT YEAR for when SpaceX launches a flight up there. A decision on that is expected for next week. It’s not outrageous to spend that much time up there. Peggy Whitson holds the record, staying at the ISS for 655 days. How comfortable would you be up in space for more than a year? I don’t think there’s enough money in the world (or in space) to get me to do that.
