A drowning man was saved by some quick actions by the Halton Regional Police Service Marine Unit at Burlington Beach.
On Monday, August 5th, at 4:40 p.m., officers were patrolling the area when they noticed an unoccupied inflatable tube and a man struggling in the water a few meters away. They quickly made their way over as the man submerged two feet below the waterline and without vital signs. With the assistance of a passing boater, the man was brought on board where officers began life saving measures.
They continued life saving measures as they made their way towards Spencer Smith Park. The officers were able to coordinate the rescue effort and transfer of the patient to Fire and EMS, with the man then transported to hospital for further medical attention. He eventually regained consciousness and is expected to recover.
Investigation at the scene determined the man had initially been floating on an inflatable tube before drifting out from shore and losing contact with the tube due to waves and weather conditions.
The Halton Regional Police Service Marine Unit is responsible for patrolling approximately 325 square kilometers of waters at the western end of Lake Ontario. For water safety information and recommendations, click here.
