Let’s talk about armchair Olympians.
We all watch the Olympics every 2/4 years. For a lot of us, we’re watching the majority of these sports EXCLUSIVELY during the Olympics. To be honest, there are some obscure sports on TV right now.
There’s a shocking amount of people who believe they could, with enough training, qualify in one of these obscure events… Hey, you gotta respect the blind confidence.
Has an event caught your eye these last few days that made you think, “with enough time, money, and training, I might be able to do that”?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Here’s where you should (and should not) swim in Halton
Good news! The Halton Region says most of the beaches in the area have cleared up and now safer for swimming. If you’re looking to cool down from this hot summer, then you can try heading to a local beach. The Region routinely samples the water to make sure they are safe for visitors. Nine beaches were checked, with seven being determined to be safe for swimming. That includes Milton’s Kelso Beach and their new waterpark. You are cautioned that things can change day-to-day and even hour-to-hour thanks to rainfall and other factors. The rule they have is if you can’t see you feet while standing in waist high water as an adult, don’t go swimming!
Daily WTF – Never Hide Your Bag Of Drugs In a Bag Labeled “Bag Of Drugs”
A Florida woman is being held in jail following a traffic stop. Lauren Riley was the passenger of the vehicle when the driver was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt. Officers noticed Riley fiddling around with stuff on the car floor and began investigating the suspicious behaviour. They found drug paraphernalia, as well as a bag of drugs inside her purse. Thing is, Riley must either be incredibly organized or incredibly forgetful, because the bag of drugs was labelled, “bag of drugs.” Inside the bag, it’s reported they found a needle, straws, a metal spoon, four glass pipes, along with residue that contained crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, crystal meth, Xanax pills, and other narcotics. She was thrown in jail while her bag of drugs is being kept in the police evidence locker. I know people say you should hide things in plain sight, but I think labeling your bag of drugs as “bag of drugs” is a little TOO in sight.
Daily Did You Know – Free movie nights being held at Milton park
If you’re looking for something fun to do with the family tonight, head to the Milton Community Sports Park! Renew Church is holding a free movie night. They’ll hold similar events every Wednesday in August. Tonight’s movie will be announced at the event, which starts at 7:30 p.m. Anyone and everyone is invited and you’re asked to bring chairs, blankets, and snacks.
GM Atkins calls Blue Jays’ roster moves part of ‘retooling’ process
For all of the Blue Jays fans reading this right now: the season is basically over. The team traded a bunch of players yesterday, and more moves could happen today ahead of the trade deadline. Garcia, Jansen, Pearson, Richards, Turner, IKF, Kikuchi… But the one that has broken my wife’s heart: Kevin Kiermaier. He’s been her favourite player for ten years, and if you’ve seen a picture of him, you know exactly why. He is a handsome man! She bought his jersey the day he signed with Toronto, and now he’s shipped off to Los Angeles to potentially win a World Series. It’s never fun when your team decides to throw in the towel with two months to go in the season. Hopefully they pull a rabbit out of the hat and get red hot in August, but if they don’t… This will not be fun!
Halton Police getting a helicopter to fight car thieves
Very soon, car thieves all throughout Halton will have to worry about what’s above them. The Ontario Government announced $134 million in funding for five new police helicopters. One of those choppers will be going to the Halton Regional Police Service, with the plan of it helping fight against violent carjackings, auto theft, street racing and impaired driving. The next time a car gets stolen here in Milton, the Halton Police might very pull an Arnold.
GOOD NEWS – Firefighters reunited with baby delivered in car
Firefighters do incredible work when it comes to quite literally fighting fires, but they’re sometimes tasked with other responsibilities. For a fire crew in the UK, they were called to the scene of a fire, and in turn, a birth. A woman was going into labour and needed help. The crew was battling a house fire, but had a few extra bodies on site. They were called over and helped the soon-to-be new mother in the backseat of her car. Baby Olive was born healthy and eventually reunited with the firefighters that helped welcome her into this world… And that’s some good news.
Jimmy Kimmel, John Mulaney Both Pass on Hosting Oscars Ceremony
The Academy Awards are in need of a new host! It was announced yesterday that late-night host and comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, has decided to not return as the host of the Oscars Ceremony. Many people believed this would be the best opportunity for comedian John Mulaney to step in and almost fulfill his destiny as an award-show host. He’s made it clear in the past that he’d love to do it, and has hosted smaller award-shows before. Despite all of that, he also declined the offer. It’s speculated that he had scheduling conflicts, with a world tour in the works for next year. So, the position remains open. Who would you like to see host the Oscars next year? One of my friends made the greatest suggestion online yesterday, and it would be incredible television: Will Smith should host the Oscars… Think about that! And the first writer to propose an alopecia joke to him should also win an Oscar.
Stevie Nicks Reveals She Was Hospitalized
Singer Stevie Nicks was not in a good place earlier this month. She announced while on stage that she had been hospitalized following what she called a “weird infection” on her leg. At the time, she had to reschedule her tour dates in the UK. While performing those rescheduled dates recently, she shared the news. Seems like she’s doing okay as she’s back to doing her concerts. She returns from overseas in September to finish up her tour in Michigan and Pennsylvania. If you’re willing to travel, tickets are available!
