What did you think of the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics?
Seems to be a lot of mixed feelings. I personally enjoyed it, with a highlight being the Gojira performance. I thought that was incredibly cool!
Did you watch the opening ceremony? Did you enjoy it?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Cheer on these Milton athletes at the Paris Olympics
The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway. My wife and I spent all weekend watching the action, which has been great so far. We’re going to be cheering on two Milton athletes. Michael Foley will be going for gold in track cycling, and Kayla Alexander will be a part of Team Canada’s women’s basketball team. Here’s hoping they can get some medals!
Daily WTF – Australia field hockey player has part of a finger amputated to compete at the Paris Olympics
What would you do to make your dreams come true? For Australia’s Matthew Dawson, he decided to cut off his finger to be able to compete at the Paris Olympics. He injured his ring finger on his right hand two weeks ago in practice. It was believed he would miss the summer games due to injury. That’s when he was presented with a solution: partial amputation. He eventually decided that was the best route for him, and he was able to play in a game on Saturday. Talk about tough!

Each week, Milton Historical Society President John Challinor details the origins of select local street names. We covered two streets named after pioneer farming families in Milton this week. We’ll have two more streets next week.

GOOD NEWS – Jonathan Owens Supports Simone Biles from Home During Olympic Qualifying Round
Simone Biles has been dominating in gymnastics over in Paris. After struggling through the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the Gymnastics GOAT (greatest of all time) is rebounding nicely, even performing through a calf injury. In her side is her husband Jonathan Owens, who is taking time off from his Training Camp with the Chicago Bears to be in her corner. He even got this time off negotiated into his contract, which means he was going no matter what… And that is some good news!
Robert Downey Jr. As The MCU’s Doctor Doom
Guess who’s back… back again… RDJ’s back… Tell a friend… Robert Downey Jr. blew the minds of comic book nerds all over the planet as he was announced as a new character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re five years removed from the actor leaving the franchise with his character Tony Stark’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Since then, there’s been a lot of mixed opinions on the movie franchise as people feel it’s become directionless, especially with actor Jonathan Majors being removed from the MCU entirely following his domestic assault case. Well, RDJ is back, as he was announced at the San Diego Comic Con as the actor chosen to play Victor von Doom, AKA Doctor Doom. Not much is known about the new role, outside of being for the next Avengers movie, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Whether Robert Downey Jr. will continue the role after this one movie is unknown. Regardless, he’s back, and people are frothing at the mouth.
Princess Leia’s Star Wars gold bikini fetches lots at auction
What might be the most popular costume in sci-fi history has been sold at an auction. Princess Leia’s gold bikini from ‘Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi’ was up for sale recently. The outfit was worn by actor Carrie Fisher as she laid at the side of Jabba the Hut. How much did it for? $175,000. It wasn’t even the most expensive Star Wars item sold at this auction, as a miniature Y-Wing Starfighter, used in the filming of ‘Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope’ when they blew up the Death Star, went over a million dollars. What one does with the golden bikini, I cannot say. I can IMAGINE, but I cannot say.
