National Drowning Prevention Week is happening later this month and the Town of Milton is hoping residents take part in some local events.
The week is organized annually by the Lifesaving Society and promotes the importance of practicing safe water habits.
On Sunday, July 21st, residents can register for free 30-minute Swim to Survive lessons aimed at helping inexperienced and new swimmers feel more confident around water. The lessons will also follow the Swim to Survive guidelines.
It will start at 9:00 a.m. at Milton’s Rotary Park Pool and run until 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.
The Town will also be hosting a Lifesaving Educational Fair at Rotary Park Pool. Lifeguards will be on site to provide water smart education and resources to Milton residents about lifesaving skills, including basic CPR (adult and infant), how to throw an aid with a line, and how to call 9-1-1.
This event will start at 11:00 a.m on Sunday, July 21st. It’s expected to go until 1:30 p.m.
Later on in the week, there will be a free competition for past participants of the Town’s lifesaving programs, including Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, and Bronze Cross. This competition will serve as a refresher on how lifesavers can keep themselves and others safe in water environments. Participants will face rescue simulations where they will need to put their past training to practice.
It will be on Friday, July 26th at Rotary Park Pool, starting at 11:00 a.m. and running until 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
