It’s been a hot summer so far, and there haven’t been any signs of slowing down.
With the heat continuing, what’s your go-to way of staying cool?
Cold treats? Do you stay inside with the AC on high? Maybe you like to go for swims!
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – The history behind Milton’s Diefenbaker Street and Tyrone Court
Each week, Milton Historical Society President John Challinor details the origins of local street names. This week, we have a street named after a former Prime Minister of Canada and another named for an important pioneering Milton family. There will be two more streets covered next week.
Daily WTF – Boston commuters are seeing a new feature on their trains
Imagine you’re on your daily commute and you’re waiting for the morning train to arrive. You’re standing on the platform, and you hear the roar of the engine coming. There’s the squeaking of the breaks, and you look up to see GOOGLY EYES looking right back at you. That’s what Boston residents are currently experiencing. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority are taking part in a new campaign aiming to connect people with their city. They say eyes are the window to the soul, and the MBTA considers themselves the soul of the city, so why not add eyes to the trains? Not gonna lie, I’m kinda jealous.
Daily Did You Know – Beat the heat with free popsicles in Milton this month
Beat the heat with a free popsicle later this month. Everyone is invited to Cobban Neighbourhood Park in Milton to hang out with Town Councillor for Ward Three Adil Khalqi. He’s hoping people will spend the day outdoors and discuss any issues they might be having within the community. The free popsicles will be handed out at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13th.

Are you proud to be Canadian? Poll suggests that feeling is dwindling
This past weekend was the Canada Day long weekend, and many wore their red and white and celebrated the day. However, not everyone is happy with their home and native land. A new study suggests that while a majority of Canadians (76%) remain proud of being from the North, more and more are experiencing less pride than they did just five years ago. 45% of people are feeling their Canadian pride dwindle, up 16% from just a few years ago. Economic inequality was the top reason for this fall, followed by the state of health-care in Canada. Third was the current federal government. How do you feel about our country? Are you proud to be Canadian, or are you bothered by the state of things these days? As someone who can’t buy a home in 2024, but could have easily afforded one just ten years ago, life in Canada, and southern Ontario, could certainly be better!
GOOD NEWS – Dockside friendship between woman & sunfish reaches nine years
A Minnesota woman is showing that good people still exist through her nearly decade long friendship with a local sunfish. Every summer, Holly Jorgensen and Greenie the Sunfish spend their days together. Greenie will pop up to the surface to greet Holly, and Holly will respond with providing the fish a nice treat. She says that as long as Greenie comes back every spring, she’ll be there to help her friend… And that is some good news!
Tourists filmed getting into brawl for ‘best selfie spot’ on Mount Everest
Mount Everest has slowly turned into a hellish tourist wasteland, and there might not be a better example than this. Two couples got into an argument over who will have a specific selfie spot while climbing the world’s tallest mountain. This argument quickly turned into a fistfight, and a video of the brawl has been shared online. Police arrived, and all four were taken into custody. That’s got to be a long ride back down the mountain, and in case you’re wondering: it costs anywhere between $30,000 and $60,000 to climb Everest… So, money well spent!
Former One Direction singer Niall Horan forced to walk to his own concert
Toronto traffic is so bad that visiting musicians are forced to walk to their venues. Former One Direction member and current popstar Niall Horan was seen walking the streets of the city. He had back-to-back to shows at Scotiabank Arena last weekend and he said there was no other way to get to the shows on time. So, the next time you’re stuck in traffic in downtown Toronto, whether it’s for a Jays game or work, just remember: Even world famous singers have to deal with this nonsense as well.
Eagles singer Don Henley sues for return of handwritten ‘Hotel California’ lyrics
Roughly 50 years ago, Don Henley and the other members of the Eagles wrote the lyrics of ‘Hotel California’ in a notebook. 100-pages of scribbled formatting were documented in this notebook. All these years later, Henley claims these hand-written lyrics were stolen, and he’s now taking people to court. A group of curators and collectors were found in possession of the notebook and were looking to sell the lyrics at an auction. Henley found out about this and said “NAH NAH.” The notebook remains in custody of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, and the lawsuit is underway. We’ll have to wait and see if Don Henley can get back the keys to Hotel California.
