What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Here’s what’s happening in Milton for Canada Day
Celebrate Canada Day in Milton on Monday! The day starts off at 11:00 a.m. with the Veterans Breakfast at Victoria Park. Then, at noon, Milton MP Adam Van Koeverden is inviting residents to his office at Hugh Lane for a free barbecue. Gates at the Milton Fairgrounds open at 2:00 p.m., with a full day of fun scheduled. Fireworks will blast off at sunset.
Daily WTF – Musk’s SpaceX hired to destroy ISS space station
Like a plot from a bad sci-fi movie, Elon Musk and his SpaceX company have been hired to destroy the International Space Station. For roughly 25 years, the ISS has been up in space running operations. It’s coming to the end of its life, and by 2030, it will be purposely destroyed. No details on how the de-orbiting will take place, but it’s expected to use a “tugboat” method to bring it back down. Space agencies are then looking at a new project called Gateway that will orbit the moon. Welcome to the future!
Daily Did You Know – 100 Women Who Care Milton will donate to a local charity in July

Bronny James joins LeBron with Lakers as father-son duo makes NBA history
History was made in the NBA yesterday as the Los Angeles Lakers took Bronny James in the second round of the draft. He’s the oldest son of basketball superstar LeBron James. That means the father-son duo will be the first to ever play on the same team together. This has happened before in other sports, with Mark and Marty Howe playing with their dad on the Hartford Whalers. In baseball, Ken Griffey Jr. had the chance to play his rookie season with his dad as well. LeBron James turns 40 this December, and he isn’t showing many signs of slowing down. He made the All-NBA Third Team this past season, meaning he’s still one of the best players in the league. Hopefully the two will have a long run together, because as a LeBron fan, I don’t know if I’m ready to say goodbye just yet.
Fish for free all next week
Celebrate Canada Day by going fishing for free! From tomorrow until July 7th, fishing will be free province-wide. The Government of Ontario says anyone participating will need to follow all conservation license catch limits and carry government issued ID. Veterans are allowed to fish for free any time of the year.
GOOD NEWS – Pope launches project to get Vatican to run solely on solar power
The Vatican is about to be entirely solar powered! Pope Francis has launched a project that will build a system to make the city run entirely on the renewable energy. Vatican City have long been in the fight against climate change, and this shift will be one big step for them to do their part… And that is some good news!
Is Toronto traffic really the worst? New study reveals surprising worldwide ranking
You might be on the road this morning, sitting in traffic, trying your hardest to get where you’re going. I think we can all agree, traffic within the Greater Toronto Area is pretty rough. We have this massive highway system, and yet there’s always construction projects that are taking up all that space. But, according to a new study, we’re not the worst! Not even close, actually. Experts at Global Traffic Scorecard ranked the most congested cities on the planet, and Toronto came in at 17th. New York City, Mexico City, and Chicago were in the top three, as people spend the most time in traffic on average in those cities. What do you think? Are we overreacting about the traffic in the GTA? Or are we being gaslit into thinking it’s better than it actually is… You decide!
Avril Lavigne honoured with high Canadian achievement
In 2002, a 17-year-old girl from Belleville, Ontario became an international sensation when she released her first single. ‘Complicated’ jumped to number one in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and reached as high as two in the states. Avril Lavigne quickly followed that up with ‘Sk8er Boi’ and ‘I’m With You’, both also ending up pretty high on the charts. Her first album went platinum seven times over, and she’s been one of Canada’s biggest popstars ever since. She’s now being recognized by the federal government, as she will receive the Order of Canada alongside more than 80 other people. The Order of Canada is considered the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System, and it honours people who make extraordinary contributions to the nation. Congrats to Avril!
Michael Jackson was $500 million in debt when he died, according to court filing
It’s now been 15-years since Michael Jackson died, and with that, he’s back in the news. A court filing has gone public, and it details the amount of debt the late singer was in before his death. MJ apparently owed $500 million. He died just before his ‘This Is It’ World Tour, which you could imagine might have recouped some assets to pay that off. It’s also possible that none of his assets at the time of his death were liquidated, so maybe he wasn’t in THAT big of a hole… But half a billion dollars in 2009 is still a lot of money. That’s a lot of pet monkeys and at-home theme parks. Wow.
