The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) – Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit has made an arrest in a previous sexual assault case.
On Friday, May 31st, at roughly 3:40 p.m., a male suspect was walking along a pathway near Child’s Drive and Ledwith Drive in Milton when he approached a 15-year-old girl walking her dog. The man engaged the teenager in conversation before grabbing and forcefully kissing her multiple times on the cheek without her consent.
As a result of the investigation, on Sunday, June 23rd, 70-year-old Sleim Basta of Milton was identified and charged with the following:
- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Interference
- Invitation to Sexual Touching
Basta has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police believe there may be additional victims.

Sexual assault is any touching of another person without their consent where the touching is of a sexual nature, or where the sexual integrity of the victim is violated. A sexual assault can range from unwanted touching to sexual assault involving penetration.
There is no statute of limitation when it comes to reporting a sexual assault. This means that no matter how long ago the sexual assault happened, you can still report it to police for investigation.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) – Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit is looking for an unknown man responsible for groping a teenager in Milton.
On Friday, May 31st, at roughly 3:40 p.m., the suspect was walking along the pathway near Child’s Drive and Ledwith Drive in Milton when he approached a 15-year-old girl walking her dog. He engaged her in conversation before grabbing her and forcefully kissing her multiple times on the cheek without her consent.
She did not suffer any physical injuries.
The suspect is described by the HRPS as follows:
- Male, tanned skin, between 70 and 80 years old, unshaven
- Short spikey grey/silver hair, bushy grey eyebrows with a noticeable mole on his left cheek
- Wearing a blue button-up shirt and possibly shorts
- Walks with a noticeable limp
- Spoke with an Italian accent
