What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – The history behind Milton’s Coombs Court and Reichert Court
It’s Street Name Monday! Each week, Milton Historical Society President John Challinor shares the details on local street names. This week, we have a street named after Mr. Dressup and another named after a longtime community member! We’ll have two more next week.
Daily WTF – Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan reveals stance on potential run for office
When it comes crashing down and it hurts inside, you gotta take a stand, it don’t help to hide. Hulk Hogan has reportedly thrown his red and yellow bandana into the ring for President or Vice President. The Hulkster was on Fox News when he was asked about a potential run at politics. This isn’t the first time for Hogan! In 1998, he announced a bid in the 2000 US election, which was eventually won by George W. Bush. Wrestling has quite the history in politics as well. Glenn Jacobs, better known as Kane, is the Mayor of a city in Tennessee. Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura was the Governor of Minnesota for a long while. Donald Trump is in the WWE Hall of Fame for all of his work with WrestleMania over the years. Hogan certainly Knows Best, and he is a Real American, I’ll give him that.
Daily Did You Know – Milton’s outdoor swimming pool is about to open
If you’re looking to cool down, you’ll have to wait a few more days. Milton’s Rotary Park Pool is set to open for the summer on Monday. The pool will be completely cashless this year, with tickets available online or in-person via debit/credit. It’ll have modified hours before opening daily on June Twenty-Ninth.
Mill Pond will be receiving improvements in July
You can expect to see construction at Mill Pond next month. Crews will be working on improvements until September. Portions of the pedestrian trail will be closed at times.
Katy Perry Announces ‘Woman’s World’ as First Single Off Her Upcoming Album
The much anticipated Katy Perry renaissance is underway! After confirming her departure from American Idol, Perry has finally announced her first single off her new album. Woman’s World will be released on July 11th, with a video coming the following day. She teased the song on social media. Believe it or not, it’s only been four years since she released an album, but that one didn’t do too well. Here’s hoping we get some nostalgic Katy Perry summer bops, because millennials could really use that nowadays… Her new album still doesn’t have a released date.
GOOD NEWS – A group of college kids may have just figured out how to get leaf blowers to shut up
If you’re someone who enjoys sleeping in on Sundays but you find your neighbours won’t be quiet in their yards, then this will be good news for you. A group of college kids have invented the quietest leaf blower to date. The Johns Hopkins University engineering students managed to create an equally powerful leaf blower that doesn’t emit the loud noise you’ve come to expect. Their design is patent-pending and Stanley Black & Decker expects to be selling them in two years… And that’s some good news!
Two rare baby red pandas born at Toronto Zoo
The Toronto Zoo has announced two rare baby red pandas were born last week. Staff are currently giving the mother red panda time to bond with her babies before stepping in. The babies have a hard time making it to their first birthday, which has led to issues worldwide for the animals. Toronto’s Zoo actually had a baby during the pandemic, which they unfortunately lost. We’ll keep our fingers cross and hopefully these little guys live long lives!
Stevie Nicks Confirms Fleetwood Mac Are Done
Stevie Nicks has confirmed what we all expected: Fleetwood Mac are done. For several years, there was the thought that maybe Stevie and Lindsey could put their differences aside to have one official final run as a band. But, after Christine McVie passed away in 2022, Nicks says they’re never performing together again. The exact quote from the interview is, “Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.” So, you have to respect the decision, and accept that this is the end for the band. What a run! If you’re looking to see Nicks perform still, she’s continuing her tour. You can catch her tonight in Grand Rapids, Michigan, pending an illness that cancelled one of her shows over the weekend. Tickets are still available.
Workplaces are getting rid of bosses
Would you like to see less of your boss? How about NONE of your boss? A new workplace trend is popping up at companies. Middle management is going the way of the dinosaurs, apparently, and that means your boss might be out of a job. People are now becoming “unbossed” as companies cut costs. Middle management layoffs have gone up over the years. If you’ve ever felt that your manager didn’t do much for the company, well, the company agrees! You might just get your wish – but be careful with what you wish for: this move tends to come with a higher workload for lower tier workers. If you want your boss out of your hair, you’ll have to pick up the slack… while answering all those Slack messages.
