The next big thing in hockey hails from Georgetown, Ontario!
With the 1st overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft, New York selected Princeton University forward Sarah Fillier. The Georgetown-native got her start on local sheets of ice, cutting her teeth with local boys’ teams. She eventually played for the Oakville Jr. Hornets in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League. Fillier became a household name for hockey fans when she began playing for Team Canada in 2018, winning several golds at the World Championships and the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In 29 games for Princeton this past season, the 24-year-old scored 30 goals and added 13 assists. In total, she scored 93 goals across 120 games in her NCAA career. She’ll join a New York team that is looking to rebound from a rocky first year.
Congrats, Sarah!
