ICYMI – Bridge at Milton conservation area going under construction all summer
More construction has been announced around town. Crews will start working on the Kelso Road bridge this month. It’s expected to cause lane closures throughout the summer, which means getting in and out of Kelso Conservation Area is going to be a bit of a pain these next few months. Should be done by the fall.
Daily WTF – IKEA is opening a new store on Roblox… and you could be paid to work there!
Welcome to the online world of video games, where employment is waiting for you! Swedish furniture retailer IKEA is launching a store within Roblox, an online video game universe that allows you to create, imagine, and share experiences with friends. This new store is more of a game, as it’s called ‘The Co-Worker Game’, and it will allow players to experience working in IKEA’s virtual universe. Fans will be able to live their home furnishing dreams and get paid for it, with a limited number of paid roles available. If you love video games, and also want to get paid for working at IKEA, apply now! Deadline for applications is Sunday, June 16th.
Daily Did You Know – Help clean up the community with new Adopt-a-Park program
Volunteers are needed for the brand new ‘Adopt-a-Park’ program. It’s being launched this month as the Town of Milton aims to strengthen neighbourhood pride. You can clean up trails, roads, and parks using kits provided by Town staff.
You’ll never believe what a rocket-packing Boba Fett ‘Star Wars’ figure sold for
Star Wars action figures continue to rake in the cash at auctions. A four-inch plastic Boba Fett action figure from 1979 was sold at an auction in Texas last week. This specific action figure is believed to be one of only two that survived the production line. The buyer ended up paying $525,000 for the toy, and wishes to remain anonymous. There was actually a collection of Star Wars figures at this auction, with it all collectively selling for $1.66 million. Nearly 50 years after the first movie came out, all the nerds who obsessed over Star Wars now have the money to make their dreams come true. Good for them!
Cyndi Lauper Announces Farewell Tour
These girls will be having fun one last time. Cyndi Lauper has announced her final tour. This came as she released a documentary that covers her rise to fame in the ’80s. She’ll be starting off here in Canada this October, with a stop in Montreal followed by Toronto. You can see her live at Scotiabank Arena on October 20th. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
Jonas Brothers booked for 2024 Grey Cup halftime show in Vancouver
The Jonas Brothers will be coming back to Canada this year! After touring their way through the country last year, it’s been announced that Joe, Nick and Kevin will be the halftime show for this year’s Grey Cup in Vancouver. That’s set for November 17th. I’m just happy it’s not the Arkells again, and I say that as someone who is set to see them in two weeks… Give another band a chance, guys… yeesh.
GOOD NEWS – Toronto unveils the world’s longest rainbow in celebration of Pride
First off, happy Pride Month to everyone. Toronto is getting in the spirit for the month as they unveiled the world’s longest rainbow. The art installation is called ‘The Long Walk to Equality’. It stretches out at 600 meters long. You can find it along Hanlan’s Point in the Toronto Islands. If you’re wondering, that’s where Toronto’s first ever Pride celebration took place, so it’s viewed as a safe space for the community… And that’s some good news!
Halsey Releases New Single ‘The End’ as She Reveals Secret Health Struggle
Singer Halsey has released a new single! It’s called ‘The End’ and it comes with a major announcement that she has been diagnosed with both Lupus and Leukemia. The 29-year-old says she’s lucky to be alive, and hopes people enjoy her new song, and eventual new album. Here the song here. There’s still no release date for the album.
Peaky Blinders film starring Cillian Murphy confirmed
Your dad’s favourite TV show is set to get its own movie! Academy Award-winner Cillian Murphy has been announced for the Peaky Blinders film. No word on the plot or if it’ll be a prequel, sequel, or what to the show. But Murphy will be the lead and he’ll be playing his famous Tommy Shelby character. No word on a release date, but the film will be released on Netflix.
