What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? If you’re reaching for your phone, you could be harming your brain!
A neuroscientist says you should wait at least 20 minutes every morning before checking your phone. Limiting screen time in the morning can prevent brain fog and forgetfulness!
Are you a morning scroller? Do you put your phone away as you get ready?

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Local art program is connecting veterans with preschoolers
Here’s a cool thing happening in Milton this year! The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton is launching a free art program, the Milton Veteran Creative Exchange – Empowering Generations Through Art. It’s a free multi-week, intergenerational arts program open to veterans, adults 55+ and preschoolers. Each week, a preschooler is paired with a veteran or a 55+ adult to partake in art activities and share a snack break together. Registration is open online. The first session starts on Tuesday!
Daily WTF – Fresno woman fined after kids collect clams from Pismo Beach
Be careful with what you touch at the beach – it might cost you! A California woman has been fined $88,000 after her children collected 72 clams while spending the day at the beach. It turns out, clamming has regulations in the state. Before they left the beach, the woman received a ticket from an officer. Later, she received a notice in the mail that listed the full fine. Could you pay an $88,000 fine right now on the spot? Probably not, right? After some explanations were given, the fine was reduced to $500. She celebrated the little win by getting a tattoo of a shellfish, which reminds her of the situation and how good her kids are at collecting clams… Maybe they can try cool looking rocks next time… see if any regulations ruin that trip!
Daily Did You Know – Halton Region investing $4.5 million to help community programs
A bunch of local groups are about to receive a lot of funding from the Halton Region! The Halton Region Community Investment Fund will be handing out $4.5 million to help community programs. These grants will improve access to important programs for those who need it most in Halton.
Light-up dancefloor from ‘Saturday Night Fever’ expected to sell for $300,000
You can spice up your basement with a light-up dancefloor, and it’ll only cost you a few hundred thousand dollars! The light-up dancefloor from Saturday Night Fever is up for sale in an auction. The movie made John Travolta a household name, and it now the iconic set piece is expected to go for $300,000. It starts next month in Los Angeles, but online options will be available. No word on if it still works, but for that kind of coin I’m sure you could afford a few spare lightbulbs…
U.S. suing Ticketmaster owner Live Nation
We could be seeing the end of the monopoly that is Ticketmaster! The US government is taking their parent company Live Nation to court. They’re arguing Ticketmaster and Live Nation’s other services illegally inflated concert ticket prices and hurt artists. If this works, we could see some financial relief north of the border when it comes to concerts and other live events. Fingers crossed, because I don’t really feel like paying $500 to see my favourite band live… no matter how much I love them.
Canadian Taylor Swift fans are flying to Europe for cheaper concert tickets
Speaking of sky-high concert prices, Canadian Swifties are choosing to travel for their Taylor-experience. The biggest artist on the planet is midway through her Europe leg of her Eras Tour, and Canadians are opting to travel to Lisbon and Madrid rather than see her when she comes to Toronto this November. Why? It’s cheaper! The flights, hotels, concert, and food are all a cheaper experience compared to seeing Taylor live in Canada. If it’s not cheaper dollar-for-dollar, people are at least rationalizing it as a vacation. You can take your two weeks off, go to Spain, see Taylor live, and you’ll still be saving some money compared to just staying home and seeing Taylor live at Rogers Centre. The reason why there’s such a big difference in price is the demand. She’s not AS BIG in Spain or Portugal as she is in the US or Canada. I looked it up – tickets this November in Toronto start at $2300. You can get tickets TONIGHT in Lisbon, Portugal for $143. Might as well see the ocean and eat good food on vacation if you’re looking to see Taylor Swift!
GOOD NEWS – Max the campus cat earns doctorate in ‘litter-ature’ at Vermont university
Vermont State University has a very well-known cat on one of their campuses. Max is actually so popular that he’s being recognized! He’ll be walking the stage to receive his very own doctorate at graduation. The school says the cat has been a great friend for every student, saying he’s always looking to brighten their day. The last four years, Max has been napping, stretching, and socializing all around campus – which is not far off what other students have been doing. So now, Max will be a Doctor in ‘Litter-ature’… And that is some good news!
Madonna superfan breaks record with 18 tattoo tributes to iconic singer
How much do you love Madonna? Are you willing to get 18 tattoos in tribute of her? That’s Tara from Topeka, Kansas has done, and it’s given her the Guinness World Record for ‘the most tattoos of the same musician on the body (female)’. She got her first one in 2016 when the singer was asking for fans to reach out with their Madonna-inspired tattoos. Nearly $10,000 later, she’s a world record holder. That’s dedication!
This one bedtime habit is ruining your relationship — and it’s not bad sex
What is your bedtime routine like? It probably involves brushing your teeth, washing your face, and saying goodnight to your partner. If you sit beside your partner and scroll on your phone before bed, you might be in trouble. Experts say that “parallel scrolling” is a growing trend that is hurting relationships. They say “Connection is critical for a strong relationship — and it needs to happen regularly, without fail, for a couple to thrive.” If you’re quietly scrolling your phone for a significant time before bed, then you could be on a dangerous path. You don’t need to completely unplug, but they recommend taking the time to connect with each other before calling it a night. Memes versus pillow talk – it’s a tough battle, I know…
